"All I need is just an estimate" declared the budgeting director.

All those who has been with him long enough will understand that this i a fire fighting statement as he too needs a number to submit upwards.

As we know, the world is make up of numbers, just in various different fors. Thus, it is inevitable that many of the decisions we take are based on numbers, like cost, headcount, man-hour etc. many times of course when we are racing against time or when we are stacked with tasks, how do we simplify things?

You are right, estimation, but estimation in itself is a branch of mathematics and a field of study. Like solving a mathematics problem, when we make an estimate early, it should not be just an estimate, it has to be a good estimate as this number will affect future numbers down the road.

When we provide an estimate for the budget of a national event as an example, we then estimate the headcount the budget can allow us, then the list of items we need to buy or cater to will be again aed off a number, thus some numbers cannot just be an estimate, but calculated and close estimate is always desire.
