Sometimes I wonder if the word "Analyst" has been overused in today's job title enhancement in the workforce. Many times, new contacts introduce themselves as an analyst, not to sound impolite by asking "You are an analyst of what?" We clarify with "Analyst of ?"

An analyst like the name suggests is one who collects large amount of raw data, does some pre processing as raw data in it's original form is usually messy, unsorted and even of different data type that cannot be reconcile on its own to another dataset. Thus pre processing is to clean up these data and with that, try to draw a link between different data or certain behavioral relationship between them and to draw a conclusion of certain event, or as what we always like predict the future with what we see from the past.

These processes sound easy in writing, but it requires specific skill set to handle the data like what to collect, where to collect, why do we collect it and how we do it needs knowledge of the domain the analyst is handling.

Thus, next time when we were introduced to an analyst, let's try to get their domain politely.
