How many of us have a habit of taking a quick nap in the afternoon? More commonly known as a Power Nap. As the name suggests, if done properly, a short quick nap during lunch hour can help us recharge and power through the later half of the day or the rest of the shift.

Let's bring up the discussion of the pros and cons of a quick nap, I will refer to it as power nap.

Benefits of a 10-30 minutes afternoon power nap includes: reduces fatigue as your body gets to hibernate, with that, your mental alertness gets improved else your body is constantly trying to rest and we are busy combating that signal. With that it reduces stress, imagine we are tired, we have tasks to complete and we are trying to stay alert thus productivity drops.

Cons of power nap would be: if timing of the nap is too long, we might enter deep sleep and waking from it can cause sleep inertia. Imagine starting our car engine in winter after not starting it for a long period. For those with sleep disorder issue, a power nap would result in us having night time sleeping issue. And the poor cycle goes in a circle.

With that, so are you for a quick nap or against the idea of a power nap? I used to power nap when I am preparing for examination.
