The children gathered.
Captains calling names.
I pick Susan.
I pick Harry.
I pick Jackson.
One by one the small crowd of children dissipated; names were selected.
Mary's name was always the last called.
She stepped back into the shadows.
Her last written words; a sad epitaph:
I pick death.
