Intense Leadership Contests in Nigerian Politics

A leader is a person who guides and directs other people. While Leadership contestants are people or a person seeking to be the leader of a registered party. A leadership contest is the party's process to select a new leader.

Nigerian politics are often intense and emotional affairs. Political parties hold primaries to choose their flagbearers for general elections. These primaries can be highly competitive, with multiple candidates vying for the party's nomination.

The process is not always smooth or fair. There are often allegationssource of vote-buying, intimidation, and manipulation by powerful party leaders and wealthy individuals. Candidates with deep pockets or strong backing from influential figures within the party tend to have an advantage over grassroots candidates with limited resources.

The primaries can also be divisive, with supporters of different candidates engaging in heated rhetoric and sometimes violence. There have been instances of thugs disrupting the voting process or clashing with rival groups.

The legitimacy of some primary results has been questioned, with allegations of rigging and irregularities. This has sometimes led to aggrieved candidates and their supporters defecting to other parties or contesting the results in court.

I would say that the the leadership contests in my country is now something some politicians feel entitled to, some of them feels it is their turn to be leaders without having the citizens interests at heart.
