Everytime when it comes to doing cost saving initiatives for the company, people often ask me, how much can I do and how high is my confidence that the project will complete with just 1 attempt.

While there is possibility to still milk out some cost savings from the processes we do, we have more or less exhausted what we have and not much can be gotten out unless we manage to pull through a crazy breakthrough.

So in view of that, my favourite line to people when they ask me for ideas will be that I will need to consult my "crystal ball" because quite frankly I do not have a direct answer till I do some preliminary test.

And when I cannot figure out a project, my typical response to these people will be, "My crystal ball is not telling me anything, I am sorry I cannot help."

Quite honestly, any cost reduction initiative needs time to explore and conduct experiments, if requestor asking for immediate answers, it is not possible. If we would know the outcome and all, why would I not use that ability to buy lottery.
