The saying goes, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. And this is something that is really true, but when there is a broken system, we should really invest some time to have it fixed!

When the system is broken, many functions will be impacted and thing that will go wrong will indeed go wrong.

I have faced situations where system really got broken and massive downtime was encountered. Everything input that we put in gone to waste because the system just couldn't handle it and churn out loads of rejects.

So whenever you discover a broken system, do not start work till it is fixed to prevent wastage. But this is mainly of system that are non-human.

When there is human involved systems, things are not as straightforward anymore because sometimes it is almost impossible to fix because some people will think that there is nothing wrong with them and there is nothing to be fixed. And when we encounter such a situation, the only way is to build a system to bypass them. It saves more time than trying to find a way to fix them.
