When Everyone Around Is Saying Yes

As a young guy who has seen how people got engaged and married. There is always this particular time amongst one's clique, most especially in the late twenties, when engagements start arriving in the group. It starts with the first announcement, and then a few months later, another person drops another announcement. Then before you know it, the next engagement announcement drops.

Then different photos start appearing on the timeline, followed by an envelope/invitation, colorful flowers, lovely rings, dancing, tears, and a magnificent and heartwarming caption of the faithfulness of God. And at that moment, one is genuinely happy for them. But while smiling at those things, something quiet happens in one's mind.

While one is still trying to figure out the next chapter that life is throwing, then I have been thinking about what the "next engagement" actually means. The pressure to also take the next step of engaging someone.

Close family members and even family members begin to throw some investigative questions that are not questions. Some types of settings become very uncomfortable, and one starts to wonder if the patience is really worth it.

And my answer has always been simple and direct recently: the next engagement should be with the person that is right, at God's specific time frame, and for all the right reasons that we need to belong together. Not because time is running out. And definitely not because everyone else is doing it.
