Hannah, now old, sat on the three-leg stool, watching her children from the window play on the field. This only sparked memories of childhood fun in Mrs Hannah who was frail and no longer found joy in some of the things she once cherished. The rain had just stopped with so much ice laying on the field as the children tried to gather as much as they could.
While Phoebe had her hands filled with a little ice, the boys still walked around picking more ice in the garden. The smile on Phoebe's face was more like the one Hannah do have whenever she had a good play, except that she doesn't leave the guys behind, she always ensure she was all dirty before leaving the garden
Watching them made her miss those days. It was just like yesterday, yet there she was stuck in a chair. The few drops still hanging on the glasses drip down, her mind now away from what happening outside, it was like being lost from the present into a world that once gave her peace.
She held her walking stick tight, closely to her chest as if it was telling her all the story of her childhood. "Granny! Granny!" Phoebe taps on her shoulders, jerking her from her lost imagination. She turned to face her and cuddled her softly, "You're done playing?" She asked Phoebe who still had those ices on her hands.
"I brought them for you," Phoebe said, handing her the ones she had gathered.
"Thank You, I'll keep some while you take the rest. When I was your age, I put the ice into my mouth and let it melt." She told her, and soon after she watched Phoebe put some. A smile escaped Hannah's chin, as she resolved to always tell the children some of her childhood memories.
Phases of life...
Today, you're strong, energetic and full of life, enjoying playtime outside like Phoebe and the other kids, picking ice and getting dirty. Tomorrow, you're old and frail like her granny, with no more joy in such activities. Only memories of those yester years are what you'll keep with you.
