what I see and what I feel
As I gaze upon the abandoned building in this photo, a sense of melancholy washes over me. It is indeed sad to see a once-thriving structure now stands as a testament to time's relentless passage, its walls and windows shrouded in a tangled veil of grasses and vines. Beside the building, I see two forgotten vehicles sitting silently, a poignant reminder of lives once lived and memories long lost. Still, amidst this scene of decay, life goes on.
I see people walk by, oblivious to the stories that these crumbling walls could tell. Their footsteps echo through the stillness, a stark contrast to the abandonment that surrounds them. Indeed, time waits for no one and life doesn't stop when one's time passes.
The monochrome hues of the photograph seem to heighten the sense of nostalgia, as if the very color has been drained from the scene. The dark clouds gather above, like the shadows of forgotten memories. Even the birds flying overhead seem to be whispering secrets of the past like they've been around long enough.
In this hauntingly beautiful scene, I'm struck by the poignant reminder that even in abandonment, there is a beauty that can be found – a beauty that speaks to the transience of life and the memories we dare to leave behind.
This photograph exudes a haunting silence, as if it's a mime conveying a thousand words without uttering a sound. And yet, paradoxically, it speaks volumes – an impressive testament to the power of visual storytelling. A photograph that takes me back in time to when @nanixxx shared with me that monochrome photos possess a unique ability to filter out the noise, allowing the viewer to connect with the subject on a deeper level with stronger concentration. Indeed, it's mesmerizing how the absence of color can evoke such profound emotions.
As I gaze further upon the image, the sense of melancholy which envelopes me thickened. It's almost like I could hear the dark clouds whisper tales of a stormy past, and I can almost smell the rain that's about to wash over the scene. My heart aches you know, as I imagine the stories these crumbling walls could tell – of laughter, tears, and countless moments of joy and sorrow.
I bet that this once-beautiful home, now weathered and worn, in its state of disrepair, could still provide shelter to those who needs it most – the destitute, the marginalized, and perhaps the forgotten.
Again, in this hauntingly beautiful photograph, I'm struck by the intersection of decay and hope, of silence and storytelling. It's a powerful reminder that even in the most abandoned of places, there lies a beauty that can speak volumes to our souls.
A Poem
In twilight's hush, where shadows come to play,
Lies a place forgotten, yet not gone astray.
A relic of memories, of laughter and of tears,
Abandoned, yet not completely forgotten, through all the passing season and years.
The whirlwind whispering secrets, of days long past,
Through crumbling walls, and doors that will not last.
The creaking floorboards, a symphony of old,
Echoes of footsteps, that once upon a time, did unfold..
In each room, a story lies in wait,
Of dreams and hopes, of love and fate.
A child's lost toy, a family's heirloom too,
Each artifact a testament, to memories that shine through.
Though nature has claimed it, with vines, moss and decay,
The essence of what was, still lingers all through, night and day.
For in the silence, a faint heartbeat could still be heard, as it still remains,
A pulse that echoes, through the cracked walls and abandoned frames.
So let our minds drift, as it wanders through hollowed halls,
Let us listen to the whispers, of forgotten calls.
For in the abandoned, we find a hidden message, an unconveyed truth,
That memories, though faded, are never lost to youth.
And when the darkness falls, and stars appear on high to brighten up the sky,
The abandoned place, is bathed in a soft, dim light.
A gentle reminder, that though it may be old,
The memories that linger, will never grow cold.

For sure it's true that everything looks different in black and white.
The photo is taken in Cuba... A lot has changed and nostalgia is the right word.
