We can't Import It

Sometimes we may need a particular thing which is not readily available within our immediate environment. Most times we may not know how to go about getting that particular thing. That was the position Derek found himself in few weeks ago.

Derek, a peasant farmer who has upgraded his farming to a mini scale farming recently. He needs equipment and machinery to actualise his ambition of food security within his immediate community in the first instance. He does not have the funds to buy the equipment to begin with. He was forced to approach a local bank for a soft loan which was fortunately granted.

When he went to acquire the equipment he could not find the exact ones he wanted. He needs a particular mixer for his farm. He googled online and saw it. He was joyous. Later he applied to have it imported for him..

The next day when he visited the customs office a fair and polite lady approached him with a brown envelope. Like a person attempting not to read or hear a sad news, Derek drew to a corner and carefully opened the envelope. He was expectant really but what he saw was just a sentence, a brief one indeed which reads "sorry, we can't Import It".

Derek quietly folded the letter, heaved a sigh of relief and walked away. Something you can't produce yet you cant import. This government policy should not be stretched too far, he kept soliloquizing.
