I've been reading numerous fantasy adventure Webtoons recently. The majority of which are dungeon-related and involve a variety of monsters. As a result, I was inspired to create my own monster. I also thought of a background story for this character.
Everyone, meet LUMENRA the Guardian of the Solarith Portal.
Lumenra is a giant flower with three eyes, guarding the Solarith Portal, which can be seen from a distance.
Don't be deceived by its creepy face, though. Despite its appearance, it's known to be fair and just.
When traveling from one world to another, the Solarith Portal is the best option. However, not everyone is allowed to enter unless Lumenra gives permission.
Its three eyes aren't just for display. They're Lumenra's way of gazing into your intent, regrets, and hopes.
The left eye sees your past. It's able to know all your mistakes and your every act of kindness. The right eye sees your future. It's not fixed, but it could see the possibilities based on your choices. And lastly, the center eye looks into your soul. It recognizes your intention for accessing the Solarith Portal.
Lumenra isn't just a mere portal, but the very entity that safeguards balance.
Anyway, before I take up more of your time because of my character's background, I would like to share the drawing process. :)
First, I created a pencil sketch before outlining it with a gel pen. I didn't really have a clear idea in mind, except that I wanted to create a creepy yet cute monster. And I ended up making a giant flower-like monster with three eyes.
I mostly use acrylic markers to color the subject. Additionally, I used metallic markers in certain areas. By the way, I drew it on an A4-sized sketchbook.
I just playfully colored it without thinking of any concept. hahaha That's why it's pretty colorful.
However, the plain background didn't sit quite well with me, so here's what I did...
Using a black acrylic paint, I colored the whole paper. This allows the subject to pop out. My acrylic markers aren't very vibrant, so using this method made them look better.
Then, using a detailer brush and white poster paint, I drew some short broken lines around the drawing. Finally, I wrote my username, signature, and the date today in the corner.
Let me show you some more photos of the final drawing. :)
I hadn't really thought about the background story of this creepy yet cute creature until I made this post.
The Solarith Portal was initially just a random sun. I drew it because I thought the flower would need it, but meh~~
I wanted it to be more interesting, so I thought of a twist and made it a portal being guarded by this humongous flower monster.
So, having read the background story and Lumenra's abilities, would you be confident in passing through the portal and reaching your desired destination in a flash? If so, where would you go and what do you intend to do? Feel free to comment down below.
I'll end this post here. Thanks a lot for reading and checking out this creation of mine. See you around! (^^,)/
