The God of High School (Webtoon)

When the Webtoon app was released around 10 years ago, there were some really popular ones that many people tried to read. Among the few Webtoons I read way back in 2014 were Noblesse, Lookism, The God of High School, Tales of the Unusual, and unTouchable.

However, when I caught up with the updates, I stopped reading them to gather more chapters. Then, my phone broke... hahah I didn't have a phone for half a year, and I think I reinstalled the Webtoon app around 2017 or 2018. Back then, I was so into Hardcore Leveling Warrior. However, I remember catching up with Noblesse and Lookism again.

Late last month, I decided to give The God of High School another chance. I remember enjoying it back then because it somewhat reminded me of Yu Yu Hakusho... well, at least the fight or battle part.

Let's talk about it!

The God of High School, or GOH for short, is a battle tournament joined by the greatest fighters among Korean high school students. All types of martial arts, including those using weapons, are allowed. And the person who's going to win the competition will be granted whatever wish they desire.

Among the chosen ones was Jin Mori. He's been learning taekwondo under the guidance of his grandfather since he was very young. He's the type of person who's obsessed with fighting to test his skills, so he's in constant search for stronger opponents.

During the competition, he befriended Han Daewi, who is a karate expert, and Yu Mira, a swordswoman. The two also entered the competition for their own personal reasons.

As the tournament progressed, they soon discovered what the God of High School was truly about and the layers of secrets and lies enveloping it.

The Webtoon is already completed with 569 chapters. It's pretty long, but usually, I could finish reading it in a few days. I finished reading almost one-fifth of the Webtoon in less than two days; however, in the middle part, the story became meh... at least for me.

The competition part was so fascinating and exciting to read, so it took me a short time to finish the first few arcs. However, around the middle part, there were a lot of flashbacks that I found quite boring. Some were essential to the plot, but others were quite irrelevant and unnecessary.

Reading the next 200 or so chapters took me a week or so. hahaha I keep putting it off because I didn't like the flow of the story. There were parts that I was really curious about, but the Webtoon focused on another part. It was frustrating!

But from around the last couple of hundred chapters, the story became interesting again... so I was able to pick up the pace and finally finished it.

I'm just glad I didn't give up on reading midway, because it was actually good. There were some bumpy parts here and there, but it was still worth the read. The story was intriguing, and there were a bunch of fun characters. Well, there were a few annoying ones, too!

The art style also changed for the better as the story progressed... and the chibi versions are always a breath of fresh air for me.

Overall, even though it took me longer than usual to finish reading, it was still a good read. So, if you're interested... and if you're patient enough, feel free to read it. :)

Ohh... before I forget, there's also an anime version of this Webtoon, which was released in 2020. I haven't watched it, though, so you could check it out first. If it gets you interested, then read the Webtoon! haha

Thanks for reading this post! See you around! (^^,)/

This was so fun to read! When reading God of High school, I felt the same. The early fights were just so addictive, and fast too, but those long flashbacks in the midsection which sapped the momentum somewhat. That being said, I believe the ending brought things to a close and the changing art style kept it interesting. There were some low points with the characters but Jin Mori’s charisma would always bring me back in. Glad you finished itIt is worth it!

It was indeed worth it, though there were times I felt like not finishing it around the middle part. hahaha But I'm glad I didn't. :) The art style at the end is so good! You can also see the artist's journey through it... Yeah~~ the majority of the boring parts was when Mori Jin was MIA. hahah

Great review! I felt the same way about the middle part being a bit slow, but the ending really made up for it. 💯

Thanks... Glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt that way... And yeah, it was worth all the patience, because it ended pretty well. :)
