Truth is one thing that no matter how beautiful it may seem, it is something that is hard to accept and sometimes even hard to say. Most people just prefer not to know the truth so they can be free to do anything and not be responsible for it. Recently, I have been seeing how we struggle with the need for truth or just remaining ignorant. A lot of people have really thoughtful ideas about why it is best not to tell the truth all the time and how they are doing it to save or protect themselves and others.
One case scenario that was given about a thief who stole a lady’s bag and was running away and the person happens to pass by this girl that was asked if she knew which direction the thief ran to and she lied because she knows that if the thief was caught, it will be instant death for him. Based on this, it is obvious that the girl was only being sentimental or overly concerned. I’m sure she will wished she had told the truth if she finds out that the person’s bag that was stolen was that of her mother that contains money for her school fees which is due.
The interesting thing about truth is that we will always want it if we are not guilty or if we are in a position that it will set us free. But the moment we are found wanting, we start thinking faster and feeling smart and wiser to tell a lie. Telling the truth is hard and often times bitter but then, it literates us. Yes, some situations seem to us like the truth is not needed but then it is only because it is too hard for us to take. We only accept or want to hear the truth when it is convenient and sweet to us. But the moment the truth hurts, we despise it and fault those who say it. We tell them that it would have been better if they just keep their truth to themselves.
But when the truth is something that will save us, we get mad at them for lying to us. This goes to tell us that the truth is always the best because we are easily biased about it. Personally, I have been in situations when I had to lie because I thought I was saving myself. It didn’t feel convenient to tell the truth because I was worried of what the consequences would be. But then, lie is not of God in any way and yet, I claim to be a child of God but still see reasons to tell lies in defense of me trying to save myself or others from the heartbreak that some truths bring.
The Bible clearly states that the devil is the father of lies. So usually, we are forced to hide the truth because of our fears of what the outcome of the truth might be. And in our own human judgment based on that fear, we rather tell lies than say the truth. And unknowingly to us, we only put ourselves back in bondage. Whenever we tell the truth, no matter how bitter and hard it maybe, the worse that can be done to us is being killed or suffering severely. But have you ever thought of the punishment that awaits you when you die after saying a lie to save yourself or someone else? Oh! You think God will applaud you for going against his words? God’s words are clear. He says he despises lies and even goes further to tell us who the father of lies is and yet, somehow, we still justify our reasons for telling lies.
Ignorance is bliss but it will cost you so much than you can even imagine. There is this song I like so much, “this world is not my home”. To us as humans, there is a way that seems right but the end of it is destruction. To us, when we lie to save ourselves or others, we feel smart and wise but then, it only proves God’s words of just how foolish we are. We are scared of saying the truth because we don’t want to die (worst case scenario) when in the end we know that we all will someday die and face a new life eternally (eternal life or death).
This message is first to myself and then to anyone that cared to read to this point. Say the truth, Hope and be free from the bondage of the devil. I know it is hard and bitter most times but trust in God’s wisdom to always save you.
