MY LIFE’S SIMPLE CODE

I always tell myself one thing: be useful in all that you do. The truth is, most people don’t regard you if they see you as a liability. I mean, you don’t offer them anything, so they don’t care whether or not you are there. But when they know what they benefit just by having someone like you in their lives, that’s when those motivational quotes of being grateful to people stick more. Well, I don’t blame them at all because ideally, we all will want to choose something that’s of more quality than another when faced with different options.

I actually didn’t realize it early that this was the code I was living by. As a young girl, I always had this drive to be helpful and useful anywhere I’m found. This could be because I was scared of living a life that will tell the world I lived with a single parent, and somehow, that built me so well and it’s still building me. I had so many reasons and excuses to be wayward, but I just couldn’t afford it because deep down, I knew the consequences will be heavier at my end. It was hard at some point, but seeing that I made progress with being useful, it was totally worth it.

I try to live my life in a way that I won’t be at the mercy of anyone except God (it’s not as if this one was even negotiable). This is because it is as if some people are just bent on making me bend to their will. Especially when I find myself in situations when I need help with something. At first, it seemed like pride, but that’s not it. I just didn’t like it when people try to help me just to show off or to count their blessings on me to me. But when I’m certain you genuinely want to help and not expect anything in return, I hardly ever decline your offer to help.

This is also one major reason why I always want to be useful because that’s the only way I can be of help to people. As for people finding me useful, I don’t really care, but I just personally want to be useful to as many people as possible. It isn’t just for their own good but for myself as well. Watching myself grow daily is a beautiful thing to experience.

So my advice and reminder to anyone that reads through this is that we shouldn’t take any help we can give to people for granted. Putting a smile on someone’s face or bringing a cup to someone and many more little gestures is a good place to start being useful. It doesn’t have to be something very grand.

Thank you for reading through. 💜
