A Year On Board

This chess year has been an amazing one. It was filled with tournaments, long rounds, tough wins, expected and unexpected wins, beautiful games, painful loses and of course, the silly and funny blunders that made everything more enjoyable. At the beginning of this year, I had just one chess-related goal: to play as many games as I could. I just wanted to improve my chess skills, and I believed that playing more games would make me achieve my goal, and even if not, it would bring me closer to it. Little did I know that I wouldn’t just be playing games, I would also be learning from them.

Looking back, the Saturday Hive chess by @sam.chess and the Friday tournament by @stayoutoftherz really came through for me. Basically, all we did was to come together every Friday and Saturday respectively to have fun by playing chess. Although it wasn’t so fun on days when I lost too many games, even the ones I could have won easily, there’s no denying the fact that these tournaments came through for me. I didn’t just participate in these tournaments, I gave them everything I had. I put in the effort not only to play the games, but also analyzing afterwards.

When we started these tournaments, I genuinely wanted to participate in all the rounds. “If there will be 20 rounds, I will participate in them all.” Unfortunately, in life, we don’t always get what we want. Life threw an important task my way and I had to miss about 3 rounds each of both tournaments. I thought I would drop to the bottom of the table, but apparently, I had played so well in the games I participated in that I had grabbed enough points to stand firm.

Two days ago, Friday notified me that Sam.chess sent me 25 Hive. Apparently, it was for the overall best U-2000 for the Saturday Hive Chess. I thought that would be all until yesterday when I also got another 80.300 Hive from Stayoutoftherz. I’m super excited that I had a good chess year. It was filled with a lot of good vibes, fun and lessons. I’ll be looking forward to next year’s games.
