Festive Hive Chess Event Arena 11th Place!

Greetings to all chess fans and the Midnight Letters community! The Festive Hive Chess Event Arena just finished and I'm writing my report immediately after the tournament. The event was organized by our friends in the Chess Community and I'm glad to join the year end event. I haven't played much chess and haven't posted much about chess since the Hivechess weekly tournament was finished. The tournament was for an hour with five minutes blitz time control. Players can opt to go berserk with half the time but with more points if they win.

I placed 11th in the rankings today which could have been better if I had won at least one of my last three games. I lost all three to stronger opponents who went berserk against me. I'm far from my top form after being inactive from chess lately. I practiced earlier but only a few blitz games. I had plenty of blunders in this tournament which caused me to lose some games.

I did get lucky in some games. Here's one game I was losing. I already lost the exchange earlier and I got forked again! This shows how bad I am missing simple tactics.

I didn't resign immediately out of shock and played one more move. This is a typical position between the Knight and Queen.

There's a threat of Nxh3 which my opponent saw but decided to take the Rook anyway. There's a bigger threat that he missed. A one move mate!

Playing chess is great for the mind but let's not forget about physical activities. I recently committed to exercise and to keep me motivated, I joined actifit.io
