Hello Hello Hivians
It's Wednesday and here in Scotland we are having sun clouds and rain, but currently at 4pm the sun is out and we are 24 deg C which is just perfect for everyone I think.
What better way to start your day with a cup of coffee...
and a ...
We had a fair amount of walking to do in Dunfermline so decided to hit our favourite place to eat a brunch.
This lasted us until we got home later in the evening.
Do you see the painting on the ceiling? How often do you see that?
And the lights ... I bet you have never seen a ceiling rose like this...
It is made out of old desk lamps... Did you have a lamp like that, I know I did on one of my work desks...
On the right of this picture is The Guildhall & Linen Exchange in Dunfermline. This is the Wetherspoon's pub that we had brunch in.
It was originally an imposing classical-style building completed in 1811. It functioned as a guildhall and a centre for the town's renowned linen trade.
It is located on the corner of High Street and Guildhall Street.
If you look down the bottom of the High Street you will see...
And yes the time is 11.50am and we have hit quite a few charity shops by now.
I will show what we found except to share what was on this bag.
It was the Cancer Research shop and it is poignant that they sell bags with this quote from Dame Deborah James.
She was such a amazing woman that I need to share some info from gemini..
Dame Deborah James (1981-2022) was an inspiring English journalist, educator, podcast host, and charity campaigner. She became a prominent voice in cancer awareness after being diagnosed with incurable bowel cancer in 2016.
She was widely known as "Bowelbabe" and for her incredibly frank, humorous, and open approach to living with cancer. She co-hosted the BBC Radio 5 Live podcast "You, Me and the Big C," where she shared her experiences and challenges, breaking down taboos surrounding the disease.
Deborah dedicated her final years to raising awareness about bowel cancer symptoms and fundraising for research. Her "Bowelbabe Fund" raised millions of pounds, demonstrating the immense impact she had. She was awarded a damehood in May 2022 for her services to charity and cancer awareness, just weeks before her passing in June 2022. Her legacy continues to encourage people to "check your poo – it could just save your life."
Dunfermline's most famous son, industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie purchased Pittencrief Estate and gifted it to town. He was not allowed to play there as a child, so when he made his money he bought it and gifted it to the town so that no child would ever be refused access to it again!
We just had a quick stroll in there, nothing memorable and I will make a proper post on it one day to give the Glen justice and to show you why it is nicknamed the Glen!
Time to head home ...
You can see the City Chambers on the right, but can you guess what building is on the left...
What about now...
Such an important building in Scotland's history..
The four faces of the parapet or spire have stones words carved...
Do you know what it says ... Hint he is buried here and was King of Scotland..
Time to travel along the coast from Dunfermline to Kirkcaldy. The end of civilisation lol.
Do you see the island in the Firth of Forth?
Can you guess what is on it?
Inchcolm Abbey and Island!

I'm all for anything that has to do with cancer research. It's an area we need to keep throwing money at until we find a cure.
Totally agree, I think it is something that we have all lost loved ones too.

I was very moved by this tour, Ed. I enjoyed learning about Dame Deborah James. I had never heard of her before. Thank you for the information. I also liked learning about what Andrew Carnegie did: buying the Pittencrief estate and donating it to the municipality so that all children could play there if they wanted to. A Wednesday hug
She really was an inspiration to many. Andrew Carnegie was a great philanthropist and even here in Kirkcaldy we have things from him. Have a great weekend and sending you a big hug.
I always love your tours! The history surrounding you is just beautiful. And thank you for that Hope picture. The Dame was truly a wonderful and spirited soul. Your pictures always warm my heart.
Well you are learning being a tour guide too. Yes I just had to give you the Hope picture. Now you know a bit more about the amazing lady who uttered it.
Always good to have a proper breakfast oh yes! that is an imposing building, how the mighty like to live in ivory towers, it totally dominates everything else.
I thought that ended at Hadrian's Wall?
Lol Hadrian's wall. We need that turned 90 degrees so she can stay in Glasgow away from us in the East 🤣
