Churches Trains and Shops in Kirkcaldy walk

Hello Hello Hivians and Wednesday Walkers

This was actually missing parts of my walk from last week which you can see in Park Beach Street Heart Walk in Kirkcaldy Saturday.

Today it's a skip back in time to the afternoon of Saturday 27th January and all these pictures have been captured with my smartphone.

Wrap up warm and let's go!

Well this is where we start today on the Wynd.

image.png

Through the iron gates and they do tell us the graveyard has a Commonweatlh grave in it.

image.png

I must admit I love the work that the Commonwealth war graves commission and the foundation charity do.

Our database contains 1.7 million men and women of the Commonwealth who died during the two world wars. Use our search tools to explore and find out more about them.

Visit their site to know more or watch this video...

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is a global leader in commemoration. Founded by Royal Charter in 1917, we work on behalf of the Governments of Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom to commemorate the 1.7 million men and women from the Commonwealth who lost their lives in the two World Wars.

Up those stairs we go!

image.png

The church is The Auld Kirk in Kirk Wynd, Kirkcaldy in Scotland but today though it is the grounds that we are walking through.

image.png

image.png

Sometimes I find it fitting to try and take some black and white or monochrome shots.

image.png

Mind you my phone camera is pretty mince, not the newest that is for sure!

image.png

image.png

I am not sure who puts up these maps or what do you call them ... Infographic stones you could almost say. I love them, and they blend in so well with the graveyard.

image.png

It tells you some of the larger plots.

image.png

They are also well maintained which is so good to see.

image.png

On the other side of the graveyard is another church we need to pass by.

image.png

Can you recognise where we are going?

image.png

Yep to an Aldi.

image.png

I need to get some food for tea.

Yes it will be a roast chicken dinner.

image.png

The shortest route is the way the crow flies?

I believe it is...

image.png

We need to get across there, that is where we are going!

image.png

You can see the building we need to get to and meet Mrs T after her crochet class.

Oh how I wish I was a crow, as I ain't walking over those train tracks!

image.png

We are saved, yes there are steps leading down to an ...

image.png

...underpass

image.png

So it is all good, as that is the back of the building we need to go inside.

image.png

Yes the main library and war memorial building.
I am not early enough to grab a coffee unfortunately, that will be next time in a fortnight!

This post is par 2 of a January walk of 2024 for #wednesdaywalk which was started by the wonderful @tattoodjay.

looks like you had a wonderful walk. I love that "infographic stone". A blend of new and the old.

Yeah the infographic stones were a nice touch

Very nice! I bet the church grounds are amazing in The summer when the sun is out and everything is so green.

0E-8 BEE

Oh yes, blue skies and green greenery makes things pop.

Hope you enjoyed the roast chicken!

Oh heck yes, I cooked it!

Love the vibe of Scotland! I've never been there but I always felt like it shares my mood in general with all the rain, sober architecture, and wild nature.

0E-8 BEE

We are on the East Coast so we get more winds but less rain that the West. The buildings, yeah quite sober that is well put!

As an Historian, I can tell you for free that the Commonwealth of Nations is doing a great job, especially in the old British colonies. This site is one way to tell how passionate the commonwealth takes the job.
You had a great and profitable work, no doubt. Nice!

Good to see you and yes they do a good work. Tending to graves of fallen ones is important especially as so many people were killed thousands of miles from their homeland.

0E-8 BEE

Wow the church environment looks so good.

0E-8 BEE

They have kept it looking well.

I'm sure you had a wonderful walk, I especially loved the infographic stone, as you said, it blended so well with the scenery.

Those infographic stones are awesome. Someone mus t be commissioned to dot them about!

I love maps, infographic is a very apt name! Those are beautifully done. Besides maps and reading the inscriptions, I also have a fascination for graves, and not in a morbid way!
That underpass must have been a welcome sight.
Nice to see some of Scotland through your eyes Ed, Scotland has been on my bucket list for a long while as my great grandfather was a Scotsman!

That would have taken a lot of courage to do...walking through a grave yard!
But I love How well the place was maintained.
