A tour of a cultural boulevard in Cuba | [EN/ES]

Last Wednesday of 2025!

So exciting to go out into the street, walk the paths, and start walking on this #WednesdayWalk, which @tattoodjay always invites us to.

With this excitement, I set out without a specific destination, focused on doing some shopping for my son's birthday, which is in a few days.

Wednesdays, I think I've mentioned before, are strange days. I don't know if they're ideal for shopping. And if you add to that the fact that it's the end of the year and in Cuba almost nothing works as we dream, well, it's best to go out with a smile and hope in every step.

So, I had a beer at Don Antonio's Tavern. I didn't take any pictures while drinking because I wanted to focus more on enjoying the surroundings and the company.

I retraced my steps. The street leads to Santa Clara Boulevard, in the center of the island, not far from where I live.

You see, New Year's Eve, the boulevard, and the street reminds us of deserted scenes from American Westerns. I don't let it get me down, I smile and keep going.

In the Más Allá Bar & Café there are some guys chatting. There's no electricity, so I decided not to go in and just cross the street.

Las Arcadas Park. A craft fair! I wonder if I'll be able to buy what I'm looking for for my son here?

On one side of this square, I am amazed to see a man who draws to sell his designs to passersby, along with other very curious products, including medicines, something that in the past was unthinkable to see on our streets.

I leave the fair behind and head off in search of another destination to see if I can find something interesting to buy...

After searching so much, nothing caught my eye. I'm sure I'll find something later that satisfies my needs or at least excites my son for his birthday.

However, it's worth remembering that Wednesdays and this city can also hold surprises. You might unexpectedly encounter poets right there in Parque de Las Arcadas or across the street at the Artex Bookstore, where someone like @ernestopg, for example, might suddenly appear, delighting us with his excellent literary work.

There are already a few people on the cobblestones. They're probably finishing up their last-minute purchases to celebrate in their own way at home or somewhere else.

I didn't end up buying anything, so I'm heading straight to my son's house. We'll probably play dominoes there with some beers to ring in the new year together.

Cuánta emoción al salir a la calle, andar los senderos y echar a caminar en este día de #WednesdayWalk al que siempre nos invita @tattoodjay

Con esta emoción salgo sin rumbo fijo enfocado en hacer alguna compra para el cumpleaños de mi hijo que será en unos días.

Los miércoles, creo lo dije antes, son días raros. Para comprar, no sé si sean los ideales. Y si a eso le sumas que es fin de año y en Cuba casi nada funciona como soñamos, pues mejor salir con una sonrisa y la esperanza en los pasos.

Así, tomo una cerveza en la Taberna Don Antonio. No tiré fotos bebiendo pues pretendí enfocarme mejor en disfrutar del entorno y la compañía.

Vuelvo tras mis pasos. La calle lleva al Boulevard de Santa Clara, en el centro de la isla, no muy lejos de donde resido.

Ya ven, fin de año, boulevard, y la calle nos recuerda a escenas de las películas del oeste americano desiertas. No me dejo entristecer, sonrío y continúo.

En el Bar Cafetería Más allá hay unos chicos charlando. No hay electricidad, por lo que decidí no entrar y cruzar al frente.

Parque Las Arcadas. ¡Una feria artesanal! ¿Será que aquí podré comprar lo que busco para mi hijo?

A un costado de esta plaza, me asombro un señor que se dedica a dibujar para vender sus propuestas a los transeúntes junto a otros productos bien curiosos, medicamentos incluidos, algo que tiempos atrás era algo impensable ver en nuestras calles.

Dejo detrás la feria y voy en busca de otro destino a ver si encuentro algo interesante a comprar...

Luego de tanto andar, no hubo nada que me llamase la atención. Seguramente más tarde encuentre algo que satisfaga lo deseado o al menos emocione a mi hijo para su cumple.

De todos modos, hay que recordar que los miércoles y esta ciudad también pueden sorprender. Uno sin saberlo puede encontrarse con poetas en medio del mismo Parque de Las Arcadas o al frente, en la Librería de Artex, donde de pronto aparece @ernestopg, por ejemplo, deleitándonos con su obra literaria de excelencia.

Ya se ven algunas personas sobre los adoquines. Seguro andan buscando ultimar las compras precisas para celebrar a su manera en casa u otro sitio.

No compré nada finalmente, así que me dirijo directamente a casa de mi hijo. Allí seguramente jugaremos dominó en compañía de algunas cervezas para despedir juntos el año.
