Wednesday Walk - Exploring Cammo Park

I've been exploring Cammo Park further of late, and was there again last night. Its a Park situated here on the edge of Edinburgh in Scotland, and used to be a wealthy private estate a hundred years or so ago. The buildings are ruins now and its a public park these days.

There is quite a lot to explore, and its the ruined stable block that is the most interesting with its hexagonal clock tower.

The park is fairly big and has many different paths, so when I go I'm still finding new things that I've never seen before, like the bee hives above. They are tucked away in one corner of the old walled garden. The main path does not take you that way, and as such I'd never seen them before.

One of the things I found most intriguing last night was in the farm fields on the edge of the Park. As you can see above a number of those fields have turned yellow. This has only happened in the last week or so.

When you look at the pic above, its even more intriguing ! I can only guess that the farmer has put down some kind of weed killer or insecticide on the grass/weeds. How else you you get such a straight line like that through the field !

I also took a walk through a new pond area that looks like it was only recently been constructed - maybe just last year.

I particularly liked the duck house that they have put out in amongst the pond plants. I couldnt tell if anything was nesting in there or not.

In the pic above I liked how the retreating sun was shining across the tops of the trees.

And I was catching some nice colours in the sky a little later as the sun was starting to set further.

Wild garlic can be found in large patches all over the estate, and that has now flowered which is pretty nice.

There was also some daffodils still in full bloom, which was a bit of a surprise as its getting a little late in the year for these already.

I also passed this massive stump last night. It was about 4-5 feet across at the trunk. I love how the roots are showing where it lifted at one side.

The pic above is the main entrance to the old mansion house that used to be there of which very little is left now.

I certainly did enjoy my walk there yesterday. I even saw a deer fairly close-up and a couple of pheasants too, but wasnt quick enough to catch pics of them.

Well that wraps up another wednesday walk for me - I've been enjoying the exercise and am looking forward to more evening walks after work exploring Cammo Park !

I like that they are turning estates like that into parks these days so that even the peasants can enjoy them! I wonder what the former lords would think of that!
