Our latest venture took us to one of Dubai’s most famous landmarks, the Palm Jumeirah Crescent. This wasn’t just an ordinary amble, it was a challenge. Unbending 11.5 kilometers from end to end. The crescent gave us not only a probe of tolerance but also the promise of awesome views. We chose to kick off in the late afternoon to seize the sunset and enjoy the cooler breeze of the evening. At exactly 5:20 we came and parking was no issue at all, thanks to the vast spaces. Before stepping out of the car, we made sure we had everything we needed.
I got out first to do a little warm-up and of course, to take some photos. From our parking site the view itself already felt like a grand welcome. The Dubai towers rise proudly with the famous Eye of Dubai blooms in the distance. Two small birds were standing gracefully on the railings, perfectly framed against the iconic skyline as if posing for my camera. As I turned my view the sunset transpired marvelously. It cast golden light across the sky while palm trees stood in refined outlines against the glow. The path was lined with vivid flowering plants and fresh greenery adding charm to this blend of urban energy and natural beauty.
There were only a few people strolling around, unlike Jumeirah Beach where the crowd is livelier with joggers and walkers. My husband called me over ready to begin. We snapped a photo at our starting point, it was important to him as part of his step-up challenge and then we set off. The crescent’s pathways were neatly divided, one side for bikers and one for walkers, making it easy to settle into a comfortable pace. We didn’t rush. The target wasn’t speed but to embrace the experience step by step. The sea unfolded endlessly, its calm waters dotted with yachts and speedboats. Some cruises turned into sailing parties with music and laughter spilling into the air.
The sunset was awesome. It paints the horizon in brilliant shades of orange and gold. I found myself halting often to seize the beauty through my camera. Along the way a scenery roundabout caught my eye. It was decked with several palm trees set in large planters. It adds a touch of cleverness to the way. Not far from there, a distinct building stood out with its unique design. A perfect mix of traditional beauty and lavish features that left me in wonder. As we continued our walk my stare reversed toward the sea. A stylish sailboat flowed effortlessly across the calm waters. It completes the picture of serenity that surrounded us.
When we reached the first bridge, I asked my husband if we’d really make it all the way. He smiled, his voice loaded with positivity, Of course we can. His solace heaved me and I found myself walking with renewed energy. The sun was sinking over the horizon. The lights flickered on, lampposts, hotels, towers in the distance. This hotel drew our eyes, its crowns glaring with vivid green lights that made the structure look almost mystic. A white limousine parked nearby added to the sense of grandeur bounding the view.
Without earphones, we savoured the simple fun of conversing, walking and being together. Our walk led us along the overpass. The city bustled smoothly in the environment. The street was rimmed with palm trees. Their trunks covered in shining lights that gave the night a festive glow. With each step, the scene felt both festive and serene, and we found ourselves slowing down.
Then came Atlantis The Palm, a true marvel at night with its iconic arch glowing. We paused for a photo, caught up in its grandeur. Nearby, the Aquaventure Waterpark and a massive floating balloon restaurant caught my attention, both equally dazzling. A little further, a striking hotel appeared with a design resembling stacked Jenga blocks, glowing warmly against the dark sky. These illuminated arches were set at the center of a roundabout. These sights distracted me from my growing tiredness, filling me instead with wonder.
We continued our walk and another bridge stretched ahead. It's slight mounting climb testing my stamina. The headlights from passing cars flared in my eyes making the ascent feel more challenging, my husband’s steady encouragement kept me moving forward. Step by step, we made it across and on the other side, the path softened into beauty. Lined with flowering plants that brightened the way and rewarded our effort with their quiet charm.
My legs were heavy and tired. My three water bottles were all empty though thirsty but the beauty around me pushed me onward. The clear view of the Burj Al Arab glowing magnificently in the distance. The hotel fountains danced at the entrance. Anantara The Palm showed up with its golden spires and Asian inspired design. Between its peaks I noticed a crescent moon, perfect. As if nature itself were cheering us.
My husband turned to me with an inspiring smile and said we were almost there. Hearing those words filled me with glee and relief. Knowing the endpoint was finally close. The thought of finishing the walk gave me a blast of strength. I took a few photos along the way. Each photo became a bit of prompt on how far we had come together.
After two hours and thirty minutes we reached the eastern end. Solace and pride washed over me. I slipped off my shoes, straightened and let the cool night air refresh my tired feet. My husband updated his challenge results while I simply enjoyed the moment of victory. After updating his step up he joined me taking off his shoes and resting his feet, and together we lingered there, savoring the simple joy of having completed our walk.
We awarded ourselves with a taxi ride back to our car. We had a light snack, laughed about the small strives and acknowledged that we had overcome the full 11.5 kilometers together.
This was our tracking application during our walk, displayed from my husband’s Garmin watch.
