I know, I am a day too late, but you allow the #wednesdaywalk posts to be made another day don't you @tattoodjay ?
I will try to post them on the right day again next time.
While writing this post I already have 11.000 steps on my watch. I'm working at the office today. Normally I would go cycling to the office, but I have somewhere to go directly from work so I decided to go by train.
And when I go by train I usually go to the train station by bike, but since I get home late and my bicycle is in a guarded bicycle storage this was not an option.
Since I would miss my bicycle ride I decided to walk to the station which is exactly 3 kilometers from my home.
The route to the station goes through a residential area, but on the way I come across a few parks. In the first park I spotted a group of geese.
It was funny that they were all facing in the same direction. A bit strange because there wasn't a lot to see in the water (at least, not that I noticed).
The parks are looking nice and green since it has been quite a wet summer until now.
The ponds are filled and the trees are covered with leaves.
Somewhere further on the route I saw quite a peculiar tree.
It's not uncommon to see trees with some bulges, but this one really has a lot. And some big ones too. You can see it's a grafted tree where the top has been planted on the trunk. You can tell this by the size and structure of the stunk compared to the branches that have been 'planted' on top.
There is no need to ask why I choose the somewhat longer route that goes through the park.
Another thing that caught my eye was the large amount of flying insects. I noticed that it were flying ants that were coming from in between the sidewalk tiles. These little flying ants always come out somewhere in the summer to go on their so-called brideflight. They always go out in masses.
I read that the females fly to make love in the air after which the males die. The females then descent, find a new place to stay and bite of their wings since they don't need them anymore 😲
Quite inefficient if you ask me... But intriguing to watch.
And since we are in the Netherlands you will find bicycles everywhere.
This one was a bit in the middle of nowhere. I really question myself who would leave his (or her) bike in that place...
It is nice to be walking in such a green environment despite it is in such an urban environment.
I hope you liked my #wednesdaywalk!
