Since it has been raining almost non stop in The Netherlands in the past few days I have to post a walk from a few days ago.
Last Saturday I needed to buy some presents, so I went to a nearby city; Leiden.
Leiden is a city with a great history. The first mention of the city around the 860.
Most of the structures I photographed during my walk are lot newer, but still old and characteristic.
This is one of the houses with a stepped gable. I'm experiencing a bit sith monochrome photography, so I converted it in Black and White.
This is "De Waag" a weighhouse in the center of the city of Leiden. In 1455 there was a wooden building, but it was replaced by this one in 1657.
It is now a café.
This church is right in the middle of the shopping street. It dates from 1836. When I shot this image three pigions were flying by.
This is one of the other churches of the city which has a total of 5. I also converted this one into black and white to create make it look more old. Unfortunately there are some modern cars that ruin that idea 😫
This is the Koornbrug; a covered bridge in the center of Leiden. It was built in 1642 and richly decorated.
The followin bridge is a lot newer. It's a cast iron drawbridge.
You can see it's an old city because there are a lot of narrow streets like this. I don't know the reason why they hung shoes on the wires above the streets, but it was a funny sight.
Photographing is my passion. Although I like photography in general, nature photography is one of my favourite subjects. I often go out with my camera for a hike to capture the beauty of nature.

Hi, friend @friendlymoose
Excellent post.
I like very much your set of photography of that marvelous city. These ancient buildings are beautifully preserved.
I loved the narrow streets, the bridges over the river. Everything, everything, everything, I loved it all.
Thank you for sharing.
A hug
Thanks for the compliments!
Such cool properties and I love your watermark
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Thanks mate!
Such cool photos! I like De Waag architecture and the Koornbrug bridge! It is fun to see shots of places around the world! Thanks for sharing these! 😊
Thanks for the kind words!
Love the architecture of the buildings! Really inspiring.
I was in Leiden some years ago. It is a nice place.
I took few photos there, I will search for them.
Cool! Not many people know this city. Tourists always visit Amsterdam.
What a beautiful town! I wish we had old buildings like that here in the US. Even where I live, close to the oldest city in the US (St. Augustine, Florida) the oldest buildings are only about 300 years old.
If you want to make some of your photos look older, I'd recommend playing with the temperature a little. Add a bit of a sepia tone by "warming" up the black and white.
I just discovered this Wednesday walk thing. I'll have to try it out next week. Cheers! 😊
Thanks! Also for the tips!
