For this Wednesday Walk, I bring you another walk I took in Hyde Park Chicago, this time to visit Promontory Point or Burnham Park, or simply known by locals as The Point.
The Point is a small man-made peninsula on the shores of Lake Michigan in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. From there, you can enjoy magnificent views.
We took this walk on the afternoon of December 21. The route took us from Midway Plaisance to our destination, The Point.
We started the walk at Midway Plaisance, at Woodlawn Ave. It was a beautiful afternoon, the evening light was magic that day. Do you remember that a few days ago I showed you this place, but covered in snow in A walk through Hyde Park, Chicago on a winter morning? Well, this walk was a few days earlier.

We crossed the park along the avenue heading north and then east.

The sunlight fell beautifully on the facade of Rockefeller Chapel.

And from that point heading east, the view was also wonderful. In the background, you could see the Obama Presidential Center.

Later on our way to the lake, we passed close to the building.
At this intersection, we headed slightly north.

On the street, I was struck by the colorful mural on this building. LOVE

We passed in front of the city's Museum of Science and Industry, which is located in the only remaining building from a world's fair that took place in the city in 1893. It is located in Jackson Park, another large green area in this part of the city that must be great to visit in spring or summer.

As we approached the lake, we crossed several tracks that led to a highway.

To reach the shore, we had to go through some pedestrian tunnels under the tracks. We went through two of them, and both had some mosaic artwork on the walls very cool.

And finally we reached the shore of Lake Michigan. From where we were, we could already see the small peninsula, The Point.

The view from there towards the south. As we walked towards The Point.

At some point, looking back south, we could see 57th Street Beach more clearly in the distance. My son told me that they use to go there in the summer.

More views of the lake on our walk.

We entered the small park on the peninsula. At Promontory Point there is a building. It is the Field House, which offers community services in the park.

It was closed, but here is another view of the building from a different angle and closer.

People build campfires in the park. There were a couple of groups doing so despite the cold. My son told me that it is a very popular activity in the summer.
And finally, the views from the tip of the peninsula towards the city of Chicago. Zooming in, you can see many of the downtown buildings very clearly.

We continued our tour along the small peninsula enjoying the view.

When we ended to border all the peninsula we finished our walk. It was already nighttime, and we still had to go buy a few groceries we needed.

The park looks massive and you are by water which means you will probably live longer than expected at least that is what the internet says 🤣

Have a fantastic day
