A walk through Hyde Park, Chicago on a winter morning

The walk I'm sharing with you today for Wednesday Walk is one that my son and I took on December 29 in Hyde Park, Chicago. We had to go to the dry cleaners to pick up some clothes, and that morning was the first snowy one during my visit to the Windy City last month.

My son lives near Midway Plaisance, a huge green area, although I should say white in this case, haha in south Chicago. This is where I start this tour.

The park was covered in snow, and if you look closely at this first photo, you can see an ice skating rink in the background.

It was cold and windy, so I went out prepared to cover up as much as I could.

We crossed the park via Woodland Ave., heading north. In this photo, you can see the tower of Rockefeller Chapel, one of the University of Chicago's iconic buildings.

At the corner of 58th Street, we passed in front of the Robie House, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The house is now a historic museum that offers guided tours.

We reached 57th Street and walked a few blocks west to reach our destination.

And we arrived at our destination, the dry cleaner's where we had to pick up my son's clothes.

The girl at the dry cleaner's was Mexican and remembered us, so she immediately found our coat and jacket.

And from there we started our way back to the apartment.

I liked how the snow looked on the roofs of those buildings.

We walked through the streets that cross the University of Chicago campus.

I took this photo because I liked the contrast of the winter landscape with that red car. Don't you?

Look how the Main Quadrangle of the University of Chicago looked like covered in snow.

This is one of the buildings on the University of Chicago campus, and it is home to the Department of Economics. The tower of the building caught my attention.

Do you remember that in the first photo I mentioned a skating rink in the background? Well, this is a close look of the rink.

One last photo of Midway Plaisance covered in snow. The building in the background is the Obama Presidential Center, which will be officially inaugurated in the middle of this year.

It is a funny little world we live in with lots of similarities around the world, we have a Hyde Park in the UK in London.

I live in a street called Hyde Close nowhere near London or Hyde Park though 🤣

Just a thought while i was reading your post 😉

Have the best day

What an amazing walk with wonderful exploring. The snow made the places look beautiful and that university building looks just like a church, which I thought it was one 😅. I love every shot you took.

Beautiful in White, that's what I first thought after seeing all the street covered in snow. I'll enjoy walking around in there but I feel like I can't take much the cold. And looks like the skating rink has lot of visitor, enjoying the cold and the snowy surrounding.

How wonderful! You got to spend some time with your son. Yay!!! This made my heart smile 🥰 I'm glad I came across your post, which was shared at PYPT in the Dreemport server today. Chicago looks pretty all covered in white, fluffy stuff, hehe... but I bet it's incredibly 🥶. At least you look nice and cozy all wrapped up, hehe. Hope you had a few margaritas while you were there. I've been thinking about you with everything that's happening in Venezuela right now. I hope and pray that you and your family are all ok, my lovely 🙏.
