The safety we need.

Early this year, I can remember vividly when I was having a conversation with my best friend, and the subject of discussion was the issue of the "slave trade." In the process of the conversation, I got to picture a real scene in my head of how the slave trade was being done. I know she wasn't born in the times of the slave trade, but then she got to understand it better than me, maybe the part of the slave trade I know wasn't enough compared to hers.

After that conversation ended, I got to be grateful for one thing: I wasn't born in that era, because being a slave who was traded is something that no one should experience. And you know the victims that suffer the most, "it's women and children". Those who have suffered from the slave trade can't actually forget the impact it has had on them. Those memories will keep flying into their heads even when they try to forget about the past and focused on the future ahead of them because people always say what's there to think about in the past when what happened has happened and there is nothing that can be done to change it but then you know what can be changed "the present" to attract a better future.

Right now, the issue of the slave trade is still flying around in our nations, but then it has taken a different form, unlike the one that we are all used to, and they've actually modernized it to suit their little secret, thereby keeping it hidden from the outside world. Modern slavery is all around us.

"Little story:" yesterday I was talking to my little niece when I mentioned the slave trade still being active, and the next words she uttered were "you mean they will still carry people and tie them in chains and transport them by leg to another nation to sell?" Was that coming as a question or a contribution because I don't get it! But then I find it amazing that my little niece knows about the slave trade "as a proud aunt".

The new form that slavery has taken befalls me every day, sometimes it's even what we think of. Sometimes it's something out of the ordinary. Often people can become enslaved by doing little things for others, like making other people's clothes, serving their food, and working in houses as cooks and cleaners.

I'm going to mention the few forms that modern slavery has taken and the first on my list is "Human Trafficking" these term is no longer new to us that we hear it everyday and just hearing it, I've seen it in movies where some riches aunties or uncle's will offer to take care of their brothers or sisters children by sending them to another city or nation to be trafficked into something else entirely rather than the ultimate promise that was made to the parents of the children.

Human trafficking is the use of violence or recruiting people to exploit them for different purposes, such as labour, criminality, forced marriage, and many more. The next part on my list is the most painful thing ever. Some years back I saw a movie where a child was forced into marriage because her parents were poor and owed someone some money.

"Child slavery" is one thing that breaks my heart whenever I think about it, I feel like children should be allowed to be children and not treated as adults when they are not. When a child is exploited for someone else's gain, it is called "child slavery"; it can also include child trafficking and child marriage.

A lot is going on in our societies, though it seems like it isn't happening, but the truth still remains that "it's happening" and needs to be stopped. I think one way to eradicate human trafficking, though not fully eradicating it, is by raising awareness of the term "human trafficking", which can help people be aware that such a thing exists.

And there is one thing that the nation we are based in can actually do for us, and that is strengthen the law enforcement agencies against human trafficking to build a better nation where its citizen can be safe.

Thanks for reading 🧡

Some human traffickers might not make use of force at all, all they do is attract people with amazing offers and promises. It is the victims themselves that will walk with their two legs and meet their traffickers. The world has really become a dangerous place.
