A criteria or not.

If this question was asked some years back, I'd put my hand on my chest and be like "everything that happens in the online space is true" and necessary action should be taken.

Wanna know what changed my mindset? Get your popcorn ready as I take you through this incredible story of mind shift. There was this particular content creator or influencer like they are being called now. I loved that lady so much that I would prefer my pot of soup to get burnt than not follow her latest trends on the online social.

I follow her on all social media platforms to an extent. My friend has started naming me after her, like "she is my godmother or something.,"Maybe I wanted to be deep down, but had to pretend on the surface. One thing I loved was the kind of content she posts online because it lightens up my mood whenever boredom wants to step in and take over the day.

One fateful day, my friends came visiting and we started engaging ourselves in different activities when my favourite content creator became the topic of discussion. They started sharing their thoughts and opinions about a video they saw of her on the internet and was discriminating her for reasons best known to them.

I was trying to argue and defend my favourite content creator because she is all I've got, "joking" in the process of arguing, one of them stretched out the phone to me and hit that play button when I saw my all-time favourite content creator saying things that contradict things I've known her for. Deep down, her face was becoming a little blurry, so I told them that wasn't her real face, that it was forged, then they showed another video.

At that moment I started to wonder how fast people can change. I felt like I was misled into believing what wasn't true, and with the time I've been spending on her page thinking she is actually a real person and that she would stay true to herself but then people change so easily than I thought.

After that day, I stopped believing things and people flying on the internet, "that is if people can really fly." Even the real humans around me, I don't believe all of them talk more about someone that I haven't met before, someone I'm just following. "I'm just a follower".

The internet can be a safe "but not so safe though" because not everyone is on the internet for the same purpose. And then like people always say, things that are being said on the internet can't be erased easily. Well, I believe that statement because the moment you post something on the internet and others start viewing, some are likely to save it on their phone. The owner of the post might go back and hit that delete button, but the post being deleted doesn't mean it is being erased from the internet permanently.

I don't think it is right for schools or companies to see that as a reason for dismissal. It doesn't make any sense, I know those institutions are trying to protect their image, but then that shouldn't be a reason to consider before giving out a job or offering admission to a student. It shouldn't be a criterion.

Thanks for reading 🧡

Content creators are all after money it doesn't matter what they dish out in public as long as they are making their money, is left for you to digest the information however you want it.

That’s the power of media for us. At times we would be forced to believe fake updates and news.

The truth is, we all have a lot to offer, so judging people/individuals solely on what you see them post online is not fair, even though they (institutions) also want to protect their image, they shouldn't blindly just judge.

Thanks for sharing.
