Many of our culture are neglected and forgotten. Most of these cultures feels as if, they never were.We the Igbos have many cultures. Digging deeper, we discover that there are many cultures forgotten.
The Igbo culture is that a person serves kolanut and nzu to their visitors indicating 'Welcome '. These things were not to be lacked at home. Now, even our father's no longer see the need for kola again. Civilization has replaced our kolanuts with soft drinks and snacks.
Our Igbo folktales and moonlight stories no longer hold. Children's attention are drawn to the television, elderly ones are engaged with the newspaper and radio, teenager are busy with their phones. So in essence, there's nobody to tell the stories and nobody to listen.
Our herbs and medicines which has always served its purpose are now overlooked as less efficient. Putting all our attention on imported drugs and medicines.
The touching aspect is our language. Parents raised their children with English in general neglecting the sweet Igbo language. Though it is not a bad idea for a child to know more than one languages, but the mother tongue should be a necessity.

dance is now seen as outdated. Even our traditional foods, such as, red oil yam which is tasty and enjoyable is now seen as food for the poor.
Yes, civilization has its full toil on us, thereby affecting our cultures. But we should bear in mind that our culture trace us back to our origin. So as we enjoy civilization, we should match it with our culture for it not to be forgotten.
