Initially I had plans on approaching this topic differently based on the definition my head presented to me for literacy, but just so I'd be sure, I decided to look it up online, and then the definition I got changed my plans a little, because initially I had thought being literate means being intelligent; however, the definition I got online narrowed it down to just being able to read and write. Well, I'd still be giving my take on the subject matter, which inquires if being literate makes one a better person, alongside related questions.

To start with, before I delve into answering all questions associated with this subject matter, I'd first love to talk about literacy. Which is actually a good thing; that is advice for everyone to be. We live in a world and time that has evolved beyond human comprehension, and given the types of things such as technological devices seen in our world today, it's advisable that we all learn to read and write so we won't be dependent on others or let others play a smart one on us because we can't read a simple document or crucial agreement file before affixing our signature to them.
First and foremost, I won't actually agree with the opinion that literacy makes an individual a better person. In my opinion, that theory is baseless, and my reason for saying that isn't far-fetched. I mean, we've seen a lot of literate people who are far from being better people; in fact, it's as though their hearts are even clouded with evil, or all they learned was just how to read and write and not how to be a better neighbor or helpful individual, a loving partner, or a caring father. I believe what makes us a better person is our individual differences and stands and not if we're literate or not. We've got lots of people who are not literate, and yet they're good people.

Also, like I said above, being literate doesn't make you a better person in my own opinion, and so it means that it doesn't make you a better neighbor or a better parent. We've seen neighbors that are literate and yet behave like their riffraff, and the same is the case when you see how some literate parents train their children. I believe learning other things about being a better human is what makes us a better person and not about the ability to read and write, based on the definition of literacy I saw online, but if literacy means being an intelligent person, then I can agree that being literate can make you a better person as neighbors and as parents.
Also, I don't believe being learned would make an individual less inclined to hurt others, because it's open in plain sight for us all to see that many learned individuals do things that hurt others on a daily basis. We should talk about how a learned lawyer would defend a murderer because that's what he's paid to do, even if it hurt the victim's family, or how learned individuals created weapons of massive destruction that are destroying lives and properties in our world today. Weapons such as guns, bombs, and the like were created by learned fellows, and the results are destructive, and other creations of theirs, like nuclear bombs, not only put us all at risk but also the earth at large.

In conclusion, literacy doesn't make one a better person or become a better parent, neighbor, or the like. What I think it does is make us relevant and up-to-date with the current age we're in. Being a better person goes beyond being able to read and write; it's about our individual personality and why we do things, and that's not tied to being literate or not.

I kinda agree with what you just said as I have seen people with the kind of behaviors you mentioned besides being educated. However I do believe education can make someone a better person. Those people with horrible characters would also exhibit this behavior regardless of of educational status. And there are also instances where learning has changed people from bad to better so it is safe to say it all relies on luck
Thank you
Maybe it does, I can't says but I believe upbringing and training Is what does that and it can come from either and educated or uneducated individual.
Literacy only gives us a choice, we get to decide what we want to do by ourselves.
Absolutely.
