When Survival Becomes The Plan.
I sometimes find myself sitting down and thinking about how people are managing to get by on the minimum wage in this country,so to be honest it is not really about living life here, it is also about getting through every day by day, the minimum wage is ₦77,000 and when you first hear this amount it might not seem so bad, however when you actually try to make it work for a month , like when you try to do something productive with it, that is when you realize how difficult it is.
You have to think about how you will use your money for each day of your needs, Just getting to work takes a part of your money, that the transportation ascept, then you have to buy food, you pay for data and then take care of other small things here and there too, so before you get used to having the money it starts to run out, so does the minimum wage help people in their lives? Yes it does, only in a little way, It helps people get by, yeah .. but it does not help them make progress or improve their lives at all.
If the minimum wage was doubled, I think the first thing people would feel is relief, not happiness, they would feel like they are not under much pressure all the time, they would be able to buy things without having to think about how it will affect their life.. even with doublemoney people would still be careful because they know that things can change quickly.
If the minimum wage was tripled that would be a story, people would be able to live a normal life, not a life of luxury but a life where they are not just trying to survive, at least they would be able to think about the future , they will make plans and even take a break without feeling guilty, one thing that people do not talk about enough is how tired it is to be trying to survive.., like seriously.
When it comes to being rich , yes I do not think it is about having a lot of money, I think it is about having peace of mind, If you have money to take care of yourself and your family and you still have some money left over to do other things like save etc, then that is what I call being rich,the point of earning money is not just to have a lot of it, it is to be able to live a life where you are not always struggling.
I think the minimum wage should be enough for people to live a life where they can breathe , where they can live a life and where they can feel like their hard work is worth something, Now a lot of people are trying their best but the system is making it very hard, for them.
And seriously that is what bothers me the most, minimum wage should not be a struggle to survive it should be a way for people to live a life.
