Remote Jobs Are Okay , But...

I know of one person who works from home and he gets paid pretty good money, and he does that developer thing but all I can say is sometimes when I look at him I'm like , man,
... this working from home thingy is actually a very good thing, He doesn't have to wake up every morning and have to worry about traffic or run to catch a bus or spend hours trying and get to work, He can literally get up, get washed, get dressed, and sit down in front of his computer and start working.

We now have lots of remote jobs, and I do think it's a good thing for those who have the skills and can get a decent job from wherever they are in the work, but somehow I feel like it's making some people too relaxed.

Before anyone comes to attack me, hear me out first, I'm not saying working from home is a bad thing

Not at all.

I actually think it is one of the best things that has happened to the labour market, especially for people who know what they are doing, Imagine someone living in Nigeria and working for a company in another country, getting paid in dollars without having to relocate, that is a huge opportunity.

But then, I think the type of remote job matters a lot, If it is a job that requires you to rack your head, think deeply, solve problems, create things, write codes, design, research, manage projects or basically use your brain, then working from home can be amazing.

You can have your own space, you can concentrate, take a short break when necessary and still get the work done, but there are some kinds of jobs where I feel that working from home can make people too comfortable, there is something about physically getting up, dressing up and going somewhere to work that can put your mind in a different mode.

But at home, there are all kinds of distractions and you could say, "Let me just lie down for five minutes.

In no time at all you are in bed, Or you say, "Let me quickly check WhatsApp.

After twenty minutes, you are still scrolling and let's not even talk about the fact that some people will be working while eating, watching a movie and replying messages at the same time.

How can you even concentrate?

I also believe that remote jobs are now competitive because so many people want it these days, as long as it is popular, more people will want it, and soon enough, companies will have hundreds or even thousands of people applying for the same job.

Yes, I believe remotejobs will continue to be relevant, but I don't think everyone will be working remotely indefinitely, some companies will make the switch to a physical workplace, some will continue to work remotely, and some will likely opt for hybrid, which will involve some days working remotely and some days in the office.

To me that is probably the balance, you have the comfort of being at home but you still have the structure and rules that having a place to go does have.

In the end, I don't believe that it's the remote work aspect that's the problem , I think it is how people use it, if you're at home and you are still making your targets, learning, creating, solving problems, and actually contributing something meaningful, then why should anybody care where you are sitting?

But when it's an excuse to not work as much, then one day, employers/companies will catch on, Remote work is definitely here to stay, the question is whether we are disciplined enough to make it work.
