ONE STEP BEYOND FEAR

There are some fears you can explain to people and there are others that are difficult to put into words because even you don't fully understand where they came from..

So for a long time, I thought being afraid meant being weak... I admired people who could walk into a room confidently, speak without hesitation, take risks, and make difficult decisions without looking back...

I wanted to be like them but what I didn't understand was that courage wasn't the absence of fear.. Sometimes, courage was simply doing something while your whole body was telling you not to...

I remember the day when i eventually had to learn that lesson... So I had been given an opportunity to stand in front of a group of people and speak.. It wasn't supposed to be a big deal, I wasn't the only one.. Other people had done it before me, and from where I was sitting, they made it look so easy but when my name was called, everything suddenly changed... I could feel my heart beating faster.. My palms became sweaty and for a moment I seriously considered pretending I hadn't heard my name.. I looked around the room and imagined everyone staring at me, waiting for me to make a mistake and The funny thing about fear is that sometimes nothing has actually happened yet but Your mind creates the disaster before reality even gets the chance...

I started imagining myself forgetting everything I had prepared.. I imagined someone laughing, I imagined my voice shaking, I imagined people thinking I wasn't intelligent enough to be standing there and for a few seconds, I thought about giving an excuse but then I remembered how many times I had allowed fear to make decisions for me...

Previously, I had said no to opportunities because I was afraid I would fail and I had avoided certain conversations because I was afraid of how people would react.. I had stayed quiet when I had something important to say because I was afraid of being misunderstood...

That day, something inside me simply became tired of running...I stood up but My legs felt strangely heavy as I walked to the front of the room.. I could hear my heartbeat, and honestly, I don't think I looked as confident as I wanted to and when I started speaking, my voice was not perfect... It shook a little, I forgot one small point... There was even a moment when my mind went completely blank but I didn't run....I took a breath, looked at the people in front of me, and continued and something unexpected happened.. Nobody laughed at me. Nobody stood up and told me I was embarrassing myself. Nobody thought the world had ended because I forgot a sentence... I finished.

When I walked back to my seat, I felt something I hadn't expected to feel... Relief, yes.... But more than that, I felt proud of myself and Not because I had given the best presentation in the room. I hadn't. I was proud because I had finally done something that fear had convinced me I couldn't do.

That experience changed the way I looked at fear... I realized that waiting until you feel completely confident before doing something may mean waiting forever. Sometimes confidence only comes after you take the first step.

I also learned that fear doesn't always disappear after you face it because Even today, there are moments when I still feel that familiar nervousness and My heart still beats faster before certain situations but I still sometimes think about all the things that could go wrong.

The difference is that I don't automatically obey the fear anymore... I have learned to ask myself, What if I try anyway?.. That question has taken me further than I expected.

Looking back, the situation itself wasn't what changed my life. It was the decision I made in those few seconds when I could either sit down and let fear win or stand up and give myself a chance.. I stood up and perhaps that was the real beginning because sometimes the biggest victory isn't defeating the thing you're afraid of..

Lol, I know that feeling too much, but it's all in our head.
