Connected Online , Alone In Real Life .

These days, you can have people you have never met physically but somehow know more about you than people you see every day, you can wake up, pick up your phone and start talking to someone who lives in another state or even another country, you can tell them about your day, complain about something, laugh together and even ask for advice.

And somehow, it feels normal, I think the internet has made relationships much easier, especially for people who are naturally introverted or just prefer their own space, you don't always have to leave your house, attend parties or sit in a room full of people before you can find people you connect with.

For me, the internet has been a place where I have met people through writing, communities and different online spaces, sometimes you start by commenting under someone's post, then you start talking, and before you know it, this person has become someone you actually look forward to hearing from.

And that is beautifu, but then, there is a part of it that worries me, the internet can make us believe that we don't need physical relationships anymore....

Why go outside when your phone is right there?

Why visit someone when you can call them?

Why make new friends physically when you already have ten people online who understand you?

That sounds convenient until you realise that human beings still need physical connection, there are things an online friendship cannot completely replace...

Sometimes you need someone sitting beside you when you are having a terrible day, you need someone who can notice from your face that something is wrong even when you say, "I'm fine," You need somebody who can show up physically when you need help, and honestly, online relationships can also create a false sense of closeness.

You can talk to someone every day and still not really know them, people show you what they want you to see online, someone can look happy, successful and completely okay on social media while their real life is something completely different.

Even in friendships, somebody can be very caring through messages but then behave completely differently when you finally meet them, there is also the danger of becoming too comfortable behind your screen.

You might get so used to communicating through your phone that the real life conversations start feeling uncomfortable and you begin to avoid people because online communication feels easier, you do not have to worry about awkward silence, facial expressions or figuring out what to say next.

But life doesn't happen only behind a screen, there are jobs, schools, family, relationships, businesses and everyday situations, where you have to communicate with people physically..... and I don't think being introverted means that you should completely avoid that,I actually think there should be a balance.

Keep your online friendships, enjoy your internet communities, talk to people from different parts of the world, there is nothing wrong with finding people online who understand you, but don't let the internet become the only place where you feel comfortable being yourself, because one day, you may look around and realise that you have hundreds of people you can message, but nobody you can actually call when something happens.

And that can be a very lonely feeling, and technology has made connection easier, but easier does not always mean its deeper, sometimes you still need to put down the phone and leave the house, sit with someone and have an actual conversation.

I don't think online relationships are bad, I just think that we should remember that they are supposed to add to our lives and not completely replace real life, because at the end of the day, a notification can make you smile, but sometimes what you really need is somebody sitting beside you saying,

I agree with you. online friend is indeed good but it can't replace the offline friend as online friend have some limitation.

There are things that the online relationship can never replace indeed. While we may feel comfortable with relationships we've developed online, physical relationship is necessary. And it's sad that's becoming more and more neglected today.
