It's Sunday once again, so it's time for me to share something for Creative Sunday.
Recently, I've been challenging myself to sketch something daily. I post it using my alt account, @harulovesanime, on the Draw a Day community. Another reason aside from challenging myself, is to practice and improve my craft.
This artwork that I enhanced and recreated is based on my Draw a Day 1 post. I have created four so far... let me show you a photo below.
These are quick sketches using gel pen, watercolor pencils and/or acrylic markers. These creations would be my basis for my upcoming paintings. To start with, let me show you the enhanced and painted version of A Cat By The Window.
Now, allow me to show you the process of how I made it. Let's start with the materials. :)
Now everything is prepared, let's start with the process!
Using an HB pencil, I created a window with a windowsill on the inside where the cat would be sitting. I also added what I want the cat would see from the window. Actually, I just wanted to visualize how it would look. I'd soon cover them (stuff outside the window) with paint.
I colored the night sky with a mixture of dark blue, light blue and violet. The lighter one would be more emphasized in the lower part because I'm painting the mountains in violet. I also brushed some lighter or watered-down violet paint below. This completes my background.
The next thing I did was detail the night sky. I added a crescent moon and some stars using white paint. Then, by mixing brown and black, I made the tree and a couple more branches on the other side.
Then, instead of leaves or leaving the branches that way, I added some white paint all over first before adding in some red and pink. Now, I have a cherry blossom tree. I also added a bit of yellow to the moon and some of the stars.
After that, I created the window frame. For the side, I used poster paint. I just brushed them. I also placed some masking tape on the side to make it look straight. I didn't want to add masking tape on the actual painting, so I used a ruler and acrylic marker for the inner part of the frame.
Since the window is done, I then painted the interior part. I just used various shades of brown. But the platform where the cat would be staying is darker than the rest.
Then, I sketched the cat using a pencil first, then a gel pen after. However, it wasn't dark enough for me. I wanted it to pop. So, I decided to use this...
I took out my black acrylic paint. It's darker and would give more volume to the cat compared to the black window frame. I also used my 00000 detailer brush to finalize it. And here's the result below.
Once I was satisfied with how it looked, I added some more details to finalize the artwork.
I added the usual, my username, the date today and my signature. All that's left is to take off the masking tape and take photos from various angles. Please enjoy them below.
And lastly, I took a selfie with it. :) I am actually quite happy with it. It was also fun creating it. I think it really helps that I already have the idea in mind, thanks to my Draw a Day sketches.
I have more prompts to try for my sketches... and for sure, I'll be using some of them for my future painting as well.
So yeah, how did you like my latest artwork? I hope you enjoyed checking out the process as much as I did making it.
I'll end this post here. Thanks for reading, and see you around! (^^,)/ Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! (^^,)/
