What a great topic from #hivelearners to commence this week. “How Easy Do You Think Your Language Is To Learn?”
Honestly speaking , being a linguist is the best thing anyone can chose to achieve, especially those who has flare for learning other languages just for the sack of speaking other peoples native languages.
Although, some languages are easier in learning, while others can be so hard, but for those who has a purpose to understand other peoples languages, they always goes miles to achieve them because they know the essence . Just like everyone want to understand one of the world”s general language known as English, many are still struggling with it because it’s one language you might think is easy, but its not.
I come from the eastern part of Nigeria 🇳🇬 where Igbo language is spoken. And growing up in Lagos the western part of Nigeria did not stop me from learning to speak my language because in my house then, my parents made it compulsory that my siblings and I must speak and interact with Igbo language, despite that English language was the major language we spoke in school 🏫 and other places in Lagos as Capital of Nigeria 🇳🇬 then.
So we started to learn and speak Igbo once we are back from school and inside the house. Although, it was very difficult for us initially, but because its one easy language, we quickly learn the most everyday used language and gradually picked up others from our parents.
I could also remember how my grand parents were so forceful on us when ever we travel to the village for festivities 🥳. They will speaking “Ibo” which is the language itself. And other relatives will keep asking us if we can speak Ibo once we visit them. This also made it something that is interesting when we were with other children 👦.

And because of growing up in the West, Igbo Language was not among my school syllabus then. Instead, Yoruba Language was introduced at a stage in my Primary and Secondly Schools. And because of the flare I have for languages, I learned how to speak the Yoruba language. Where the problem lies though is how I can not write ✍️ it. Making it one subject I was not able to score a good grade on.
Igbo language is one language that is very straightforward. Right now I can speak and write Igbo language because my mother use to be Minutes Secretary in their Women Association and she writes the minutes in Igbo language. This is where I picked interest to write in Igbo language. I started then to teach some of my classmate Igbo language and it was interesting because with time, they learned how to speak “Ibo” for the fun 🤩 of it. Many even confirmed that Igbo language is very simple if they should just learn how to speak it and not to write it✍️.
So Igbo language is simple and very easy to learn quickly. The only thing is that some of the words when writing ✍️ might need some dots, spaces and proper constructions. But with flare and interest, it is easily learnt and enjoyed.
This is my response to the #hivelearners featured content for week 242, edition 01.
