The internet and how it should be used has been a topic of contention for a very long time. We all have our opinions on this matter and no matter what we say one thing is for sure; the internet is here to stay.
As much as we don’t like some of the content displayed on the internet, we cannot hide from the fact that it also helps make our lives easier day in and day out. At times we tend to have poor judgment when it comes to certain issues and as a result, we tend to use certain tools wrongly.
The censorship question and who should do what to help with how people access the internet will always be a debate. From one end of the story we need to educate our kids or the young ones to be fully aware of the consequences of what they are getting themselves into and on the other hand, we allow them to have limited access until they are of age.
From where I sit I don’t think a child at a very tender age needs to access the internet for anything at all. For whatever the child needs he or she can simply ask an adult and he or she will get his or her answer.
When the internet was created I don’t think the creators sat down to think about its negative impact on society. All they thought about was its positives and how it will help us to grow as a human race. As a matter of fact, when any new technology is introduced we tend to not consider the negatives and only deal with the positives as most of the time a product is only advertised with its positives and its negatives ignored.
No one ever thought that people could easily access pornography as easy as it is to have access to them these days. As best as I know it was way hard to access porn on the internet that it is now. With a single word the uncensored stuff comes out and as kids, it can be very bad.
As an adult, you can decide on whether you’ll consume the content that has been displayed to you or not but a kid will not have that kind of mind as he will instantly be drawn to it.
Let’s say the kids don’t even put in the effort to access these contents on the web, they are still brought to them in the form of ads and with how ads work these days the moment you access certain sites especially free download sites those are the contents you’ll see as ads on your homepage.
Now, as much as we will try to shift the blame to which body is responsible for censorship of this content I still think it lies in the hands of the parents or guardians. Bringing a child into this world is not just about giving birth to them. You as the parent or guardian have the sole responsibility of making sure that the child grows up to not be a nuisance to the society.
Apart from being a nuisance to society, you’ll also have to make sure that the child has been instilled with moral codes which will help him or her go far in this life.
I still think the service providers need to take further steps to control what type of ads they show to people. Google for instance should do a better job especially when they don’t know who is using their internet. For some people, they register with their email be for accessing chrome so google can determine how old they are. So I think according to your mail they should know your age and should give you those type of ads. To add if the age of an account can’t be identified I think that they need to not show those types of ads.
It’s a collective effort but then I think the parents have a bigger role to play in this.

You really raised great points! These platforms can actually do better when it comes to deciding the kind of contents people have access to since they usually have all the data.
However, the parents truly have bigger roles to play since they are the closest to their children.
Well all these platforms care about is making their money so at the end of the day it’s really up to the parents and guardians
I very much agree with this, censorship is a collective efforts from parents, guardian, teachers, contents creators and government
