I’ve always had this very weird theory in my head and for some reasons this stops me from engaging on certain controversies on Twitter. The reason is simple; my helper might one day see the type of shit that I say in twitter and choose not to help me. It doesn’t matter which said of the room you are sitting but we can all agree that in the corporate world having a good image is actually good for a lot of companies. See how I said a lot?
As they say, there is not such thing as bad publicity. We have seen in recent years and months were some people or should I say artistes use beefs and nude pictures of some sort to promote a music that they are about to release. In this case the publicity helps them to make numbers and at the end of the day they make their money and are ok with what ever consequences that come after.
It doesn’t matter to them what you think about them later on as long as they are making their money. But all aspects of life is not the entertainment industry. What works in the entertainment industry will not work in the corporate world and whether you like it or not no one will like to invest money into a company with a bad name. If you have a bad name it certainly means that your staff will probably gamble or run away with money which is meant to be used for investment.
A lot of people might argue that social media life is different from the real life but then I beg to differ. Yes, most people are clout chasers and will definitely do any thing for followers but are you saying if you can do anything online you’re not that same person offline?
If you can show up naked online are you saying you’ll draw the line when it comes to embezzlement of company funds?
Some companies will always request to know your social media handles before they give you the job. From where i sit I don’t think it’s invasion of privacy as most things that you post into the public space are already not private in the first place. If people get to realise that what they claim to be clout chasing on social media can have an effect on their lives in the future I think they’ll think twice before they do certain things.
For me, as I said in the beginning I’ve limited myself to the kinds of stuff that I engage with because of opportunities that I may need one day. To be sincere I am not one to be dragging issues with people over silly things. I think the only time I have time to drag issues is when someone has the wrong idea about my tribe or my religion. Even in those situations I have a low tone and then try to correct them. Some come off pissed when you try to correct them but I don’t engage in insults as well.
I’ll definitely be willing to hand out my socials to the company if they ask for it as I don’t have anything to hide. What I won’t be willing to do is to give them my login details even if I am not hiding anything as my dms are my privacy.
I would not give a company my login details. That much is not their business. But my handles? I will. As you mentioned, the media space is a public space, so what privacy would the employee be bothered about.
Yes you see? So if it's all for work why not?
Sending you an Ecency curation vote!
I doubt if companies will ask for login details. The only case that should warrant that is if one is already an employee and is being tried for a criminal offense against the company, like embezzlement. Even at that, giving out login details will still raise eyebrows.
That said, the evil people do online is unbelievable. Most believe it's faceless and they can do whatever they want until nemesis catches up with them.
Well yh that's true. People will always try to be mischievous when they think no one is watching.
Providing my Login details is crazy, won't give that to any company, although there could be exemption
hehe. I don't think there should be an exemption though. In a serious country you can sue them for that.
