An immediate treatment given to an injured person before the arrival of a medical personnel is termed to be a "FIRST AID TREATMENT". Growing up i never knew how crucial the knowledge of how to administer a first aid treatment was until i witnessed an incident that almost took a life many years ago, due to the lack of knowledge on how to administer a first aid treatment. Things could have ended much better if only we had around someone with the knowledge of how to administer a first aid treatment that very day, but unfortunately, there was none. It wasn't all bad though, and that was because the victim was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital where first aid treatment was immediately administered to him by the nurses at the reception before the real treatment commenced. The scar he got from that injury that day could have been avoided if only he had gotten a first aid treatment immediately after the incident happened, but because no one with such knowledge was available, he ended up with a scar...
First aid treatment was a topic i was taught in physical health education many years ago. Honestly, i didn't really know much about it before i was taught within the four walls of the class room. I remember vividly how attentive i was that very day when Mr. Allen our P.H.E teacher was teaching us in class, i was in primary four back then, and gradually i started seeing reasons why everyone must have one or two knowledge about how to administer a first aid treatment...
Yes i do know the basic first aid treatment, but do i know how to administer it, no i don't think i have the knowledge of how to administer it, and that's because i haven't been in that position before. I have only seen it up-close a couple of times, and that's because my landlady is a nurse and she also runs a drug store, therefore she has administered first aid treatment a couple of times to some injured patients before referring them to a hospital for more detailed treatment, especially for a severe injury...
I think the above paragraph has already answer the next question in the prompt to an extent, but to be more clear on my stand, i will give a detailed response. Honestly, If someone were to have a medical emergency beside me, i don't think i will be of much help to that person, I have over a thousand and one reasons behind this particular decision of mine, added to this reasons is also the severity of the persons case. If it's a situation beyond my control, i don't think i will be of much help to that person but guess what, i can run a thousand meter just to get help for such person, for the sake of humanity, and that is if there is a guarantee the person will be alive till i get them help. In the absence of this assurance i might have to present myself with a choice, and that choice will also depend on the severity of the incident. I don't want to be in a situation where i will be held responsible for the outcome of my actions just because i am trying to save a life, it would be a different case if that soul was/is a family...
The funniest thing about this whole first aid treatment thingy is that i only have the basic knowledge, but in reality i don't have any experience administering it, and that might actually affect me when there is an emergency, but then there is always a first time for everything. I doubt there will be a first time for me, and that's because i can be a little bit confused and disorganized when faced with a medical emergency...
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is something i have only seen happen on screens, i have never seen it happen in real life, and i definitely can't perform it. It's funny how it is made to look like an easy task on screens while in reality it's more complicated. CPR is more than how we see it on screens, and it definitely can't be performed by an inexperienced person, but when it comes to stopping a bleeding wound, i think i know how to do that. I remember how we stop bleeding back then in our childhood, we stop bleeding wounds by pouring sand on the face of the wound, this was an effective method in my childhood, unknown to us that such action could get the wound infected with tetanus and possibly lead to a bigger problem...
Childhood was fun and risky, thank GOD for life. Managing a bleeding wound is something i can do to an extent, with the necessary things in a first aid box i can do justice to a bleeding wound...
In conclusion, it is imperative to have the knowledge of how to administer a first aid treatment in this modern age and time. This knowledge should also come with practical experience for one reason or another. Let's not take this for granted as it is important to human lives...
