To teach or not to teach

When I first saw this prompt, it brought back some memories from my childhood when I was learning how to operate a computer.

It’s a good thing to be able to handle some things like computers and the internet, and also it would be a great idea if there were someone who could teach people how to operate the internet better, but what I wouldn’t support is teaching people how to operate on social media at a tender age, because children nowadays are smarter than what you think.

We all know how harmful social media can be for the teenagers because they don’t know what to avoid on social media, so including social media as a course in high school will be a huge mistake for the upcoming generation.

I remember when I was younger and had my first phone, then my mom did not support the fact that my sister got me a Java phone, but their excuse was that any time they wanted to communicate with us, they would call me since my mom doesn’t know how to handle phones yet.

I also remember searching for so many things on the phone, which no one taught me, and alone then I discovered that there was something called blue film on social media because whenever I searched for something on the so-called Facebook, Google, and any other place, they always brought the advert to me.

Then I was always tempted to watch it, but because my phone couldn’t handle the website signal, I couldn’t watch it, but I do see so many advertisements on social media.

Now, bring that to the fact that someone has taught me how to operate social media; that would have been a different story because I would have had knowledge of what to do to get into the website, and so many other things on social media would be easier for me to access.

This experience of mine must have happened to different teenagers nowadays, and I am sure most of them would have access to see whatever they wanted because the world has advanced. It is no more the era of Java, and Android made browsing easier to the extent that you can access whatever you want whenever you want it as long as you have a subscription to it.

The truth is that if such subject is included in the high school it would help students a lot to navigate through their learning and also help them to know more than whatever they were taught in the class. But the disadvantage of teaching them how to operate on social media is more than the advantage.

Based on my experience with social media, I don’t think including social media as a course would do any good for this generation because without teaching them, they have already started learning how to handle social media, and if they were being taught, then it would mean they could do more than what they have already known, which might not be good for them and for the next coming generation.

Yes, many of us learned how to handle technology by trial and error, with no one to guide us. Now the challenges are greater in view of the presence of artificial intelligence. Many young people will encounter it unprepared. Greetings @princess-dara

Yes and that is why it will be good if the coming generations learn so that they won’t be ignorant of social media

I think if this subject is included for high school like the prompt said, then it becomes better especially from SS class who are growing out of teenage stage...they will be matured enough to handle the issues associated with social media

It's even better they are guided rightly otherwise they will make more mistakes than we think

Yeah, there is no doubt about how much social media would help but come to think of it some SS class students are already exposed to the social media world and teaching them more will only cost more damage than the good side of the subject

Incorporating social media as a core course will help out students to understand better without paying for extra money to learn outside of school.

Yeah, that’s a good point sis in fact it will help them out to learn more than what they were taught in the class
