Gone are those days when libraries were the only source of reading books, the only source to gather information, or the only source to find some things we need.
Gone are those days when we relied on libraries for research or assignments, and most students relied on libraries for more knowledge as well.
The world has changed and advanced so much that you can access any book on the internet without leaving your comfort zone or stressing yourself before you can access books to read. But despite all the free access to books online, I still prefer the real libraries simply because that is where you can get the original content without any AI translation or different copyright for one book.
I am not a fan of libraries because reading books is not my thing; listening to history is never what I like, except for novels, and if it is not a romantic one, then count me out. Then, the only time you see me in the library is when I want to read my notes for exams; if not, I don’t fancy the library, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need it anymore just because we now have the internet that can provide everything we need to know for us.
Library books are more reliable and straightforward than those copyrights we see on the internet; meanwhile, it is also the library books that people now rebrand, or let me say rewrite, to claim the copyright of the same books we have in the library.
To me, I think we still need a library because that is where we can find original material, books, and genuine stories with good information that we need. It might take too long finding information in the library, but based on the fact that I know what a library is, I think it should never be neglected for any reason.
Most of this new generation didn’t know or have ideas of good stories or deep knowledge of history; all they depended on was the internet, and trust me when I tell you that there are lots of histories that are not and will never be on the internet because those people rewriting the history wouldn’t or will never put all the facts on the internet because there are some parts in some histories that must never be disclosed on the internet, but you can find that in the library because the forefathers wrote it down for the coming generations to see, which is sitting in the library, but because the world has changed and become digital, we all believe we can access that history online.
There was a movie called The Woman King, a perfect historical movie at that, but I don’t think they were able to share all the history in the movie because it will only get boring to this generation if they do the movie according to the history. Now some people think they now know the OYO history based on what they watched in the movie. Well, it is only the idea that they have because the real history is sitting inside one library somewhere, which no one cares to read about.
The internet might provide some information, and of course it might be useful to us, but that doesn’t mean libraries shouldn’t exist anymore because that is where we can find genuine and real history.
