Politics in the digital age

Gone are those days when people queued for hours, even throughout a day, all in the name of voting whenever an election was on. But now social media has made life easier for everyone; even those people who didn’t have such access in their era now learn how to use social media because with social media, life is easy.

Now bringing politics and social media together, it’s a great thing for people who are into politics because they get across to plenty of people without leaving their comfort zones, and also social media has made election campaigns easy as well because some people never leave their homes during the election, and yet their vote was counted simply because politics has taken over social media and there is nothing to hide when it’s on social media.

There is no doubt how much social media has helped this generation because it has become part of everyone’s daily lives, and that’s a good thing about social media. I also love the fact that people who are into politics accept social media as their main source of campaign; if not, they would still be roaming around from one street to another for people to support them.

Nowadays they just post someone who is campaigning, and from there they get more followers, which they don’t even know, and social media is funny to the extent that it brings more people than walking around to get people’s attention. Let’s just say news spreads faster on social media than anything.

Some sources of information about political activity now look irrelevant because social media is way bigger and better than them; for instance, radio stations were the fastest way to get news before, during the time I was growing up. I still remember how my mother turned her old radio to political news, and every other person who cared to listen would move closer, and they all would begin to argue. Aside from that, we also have newspapers.

This one is a very funny thing to me because people would leave their house early in the morning to read newspapers at the junction, and those who had money to buy them would buy them and go back home to read from one page to another. It was a funny thing to me because how can I stand on the road aimlessly because of one piece of news that wouldn’t do me any good, and yet people would stand there reading and arguing with each other?

Does the newspaper still exist? That I don’t know, and I can’t remember the last time I saw it because I can stay in my comfort zone and get all the information I need on social media.

I think social media has a big impact on the politics of today, and it also has positive effects on politicians as well since they don’t have to walk around anymore to get an audience. All they do now is make good content for people and then post it on social media, and all they are fighting for is how to earn more money.

There is no doubt about how much good social media has done for people’s political careers, but what I would love to change about all this is the fact that those politicians don’t care about their people; all they want is crowds and, of course, people’s audiences, which is very bad, so I would love social media to change that impression by making sure all the politicians post promising content that they will do this and that while campaigning, they do just as they say; if not, their content will be taken down and they will be sued, or they will not be able to get access to their accounts because that seems like using social media to fool people.

This is a thoughtful write-up. Social media has truly changed the face of politics, making campaigns easier and information more accessible. But I agree politicians should be held accountable for what they post. It shouldn’t just be about getting attention, it should be about fulfilling promises too.

Yeah, and the reason is because they are just making use of social media to fool people who put their trust in them which is very bad
