From waste to wonder

When I was little, I didn’t like throwing away some of my plastic since I could use it for some other things. Then I never knew what recycling was; all I knew was that some plastic was good for reusing.

When I became an adult, I loved recycling my waste a lot, especially when it had to do with plastic. Maybe I am obsessed with plastic. I don’t like throwing them away simply because they are always useful to me in one way or the other, especially my table water plastics and air freshener plastics.

Even papers I don’t throw them away as well because I do use them for DIY sometimes.

The prompt says, “How often do I recycle?” I do recycle almost every time because I do DIY a lot, and I do post them here, so recycling is one of my favorite things since I get to reuse my old stuff again whenever I rebrand it into new stuff I could use at home.

As for general recycling in my country, there is a reliable recycling system here in Nigeria, but because of the too much population, I think they failed to touch some areas when it comes to recycling.

There are so many ways people recycle here in my country, and it started with some Hausa people who pick up used irons on the road. I wonder what they want to do with all that, but for the fact that they don’t allow those irons to pollute the area, people tend to give it to them whenever they have any used iron. Now they have advanced to the extent that they now buy used irons from people.

There are people who pick used plastics, so instead of throwing them away, people gather them together and sell them for them, which I still don’t know what they are using it for. But it’s all for good since it doesn’t dirty the environment anymore.

Another thing I don’t throw away is the disposable plastic; people think since the plastic is called disposable, then it should be thrown out when you are done with it, but I don’t support that because this same plastic can be used at home in so many ways.

Sometimes when I have a visitor and he or she doesn’t want to eat, I will package the food with the disposable plastic, and of course, it can also be used to package something like blended pepper, fish, or meat inside a refrigerator since you can arrange them.

Aside from the disposable plastic, there are some plastics that could be useful, like, for instance, custard plastic. One of my sisters has plenty of it because they drink custard a lot, and I do take some from her as well, since I could use it to keep raw foodstuffs at home instead of packing nylon everywhere in the house.
