Is It Facebook? Is It Instagram? Is It Twitter (X)? .:. Walk & Talk Series

Do you have problems to explain Hive to others? What is your "selling point" when you try to do it? Is it a blockchain side of it, free transactions, 3-second transactions, DPOS blockchain, etc.? Or you are selling it as a Web3 platform where you OWN your content? Or do you try to onboard people on some of the games that are run on HIVE? The "method" that you choose depends on what YOUR main use case of HIVE... I'm not sure that most people are using this platform for blogging as I know that I came here because of Splinterlands and I heard that many others did the same... But, let's focus on the blogging side today...

I remember that the "selling" point of this blockchain was comparing it with REDDIT, or at least, that was the initial idea... But, as time passed by, people developed different dApps and different frontends... So, from REDDIT, it became Blogger, and after that Facebook... As time passed by, the popular Liketu frontend was created and HIVE became the Web3 version of Instagram, after that, it became Web3 Twitter with LeoThreads and Ecency Waves...

Is It FB.jpg
Created in Canva.com

So, which one of those is HIVE? I would say that it is ALL that and MORE than all... The potential is limitless and who knows what will be built here tomorrow... As it is ALL that, what are the TOS (Terms Of Service), what are the rules for creating content on HIVE? In addition, HIVE is a decentralized social media network... There is no CEO who will write down the TOS!

For some reason, the concept of DECENTRALIZATION became a huge problem for many people... While mainstream media, governments, and rulers want to "enslave" us for decades and centuries, or by force, or by propaganda, it's hard to embrace all this FREEDOM that decentralization offers! In some way, we have a problem now that we can do "whatever we want"... We are unprepared for that! As we were indoctrinated to have RULES for everything, the first thing that people ask when they come here is asking for RULES!

Liotes Divider Blue.png

There are no RULES on HIVE! I know that many will disagree with that, but it is like that... There are no rules on the blockchain level on what kind of content you can, or can't write, how long posts you should write, what should be the topic, etc. For the Liketu app, it's normal that you post a picture and a short text, for LeoThreads the point is that you write short posts...

You can say that those are RULES, but I would rather say that those are more GUIDELINES for those specific dApps, but NOT for the HIVE in general! We have communities on HIVE and every community has its own rules, which is okay... If you are not following those rules, you can be MUTED in the community, but still, your content is in the HIVE blockchain... Even if your content is downvoted to zero, it is still on the chain and nobody can remove it except you (even that you can't do either, but that's another topic šŸ™‚)...

Liotes Divider Blue.png

When people talk about HIVE RULES, many people think about the rules that some CURATION projects are "created"... For example, some curation projects will not upvote a post if it has less than 500 words, if the author doesn't engage, if there is no photo in the post, etc. But again, those are rules for THAT SPECIFIC project and if you are not following those guidelines you will not be curated by that project, but your content is still visible on the chain and can be curated by someone else!

There is no right or wrong way of doing things (except some ethics and common human rules and rights, of course)... HIVE is an ever-growing system or organism... It is changing, growing, and evolving, and what was "the rule" 3-4 years ago, it is not anymore... As it WASN'T a RULE at all... šŸ™‚

I could write about this a lot, a lot more, but it is a nice start for a dialogue... We need to talk about these topics, we need to have more tolerance for new ideas and new ways to grow, and we should always have an open mind to them!

You know when you are spoilt for choice, you like it all but can't make up your mind which you want right now.

That is how to explain Hive, it has everything, but what the fluff actually is it!

For me it depends who the person you are explaining Hive to. It is a mix and match scenario for me!

Yeah, I know that feeling... Lately, I don't jump from place to place but rather focus on 1 thing... It can be wrong as I can miss something big, but I'm ready to pay that risk...

Definitely! If someone likes games, you show them Splinterlands, and Craftink... If it they like Twitter, you show them Leothreads, etc. šŸ˜ƒ

That is exactly it, different horses for different courses as they say!

I think the people whom I told about HIVE are reluctant to write some blog and earn cryptocurrency as they are used to share short or copy-paste type contents on other centralized social medias.

Maybe when Leothreads become more mainstream they will have a platform for them... šŸ˜ƒ

You know, it's funny, as I think about it I pretty much list everything it is in one go when talking about Hive with someone new and maybe that kind of scares people away.

Being able to cater what Hive is to a particular person would be better when trying to sell the entire package. I joined because I heard about a place you could write blogs and earn crypto, I was intrigued, signed up, and then heard about Hive and left the other place and joined here. I made a good decision joining and have loved it since arriving.

As far as rules go, and quality of content. I see Hive like YouTube in a way. Back in 2007-2008 anyone could upload the worst quality video and become famous, but then slowly, everyones equipment got better, videos became professional, and everyone had to up their own game to stand out. That's kind of how I see content here in a way, slowly quality content creators force everyone else to up their own game in order to stand out and keep up.

That could be the case... We should "present" only the part that the potential new Hivian is currently using... That's probably the easiest way to onboard as information overload always have negative effect and scares people, like you said...

THIS! I found "only" one, but HUGE problem regarding that... When I see some big curators (whales) upvoting content randomly, without even checking it, it does the complete opposite to HIVE than you said for YT... When someone from "outside" sees a shitpost upvoted by big votes, they will think that they can do the same... In some way, it encourages people to create shitposts, while it should be as you said... If you reward good content, you will attract good creators...

Until delegating to some curator involves an "automatic" upvote for the person, we will slow down our "quality content growth"...

I mean, it's not that ALL big curators are doing that, but you can easily spot who does, and some use that as their "selling point" to people who delegate to them... IMO, that's the wrong way to do things and it harms HIVE in the long term...

0E-8 BEE

Yeah, 100%, we need to focus on the individual more than giving an overall explanation that loses them.

It's pretty dangerous for the development of Hive if things just get upvoted randomly, but I'm not really sure how to combat quality control without using downvotes that could then lead to anger and conflict on a large scale.

Maybe we need to reconsider what is considered Hot, or Top. Trending content here is based on the amount of money a post earns, maybe we need to rethink that idea and have a separate section for trending content that is based on the quality of it rather than how much it earned. That way good content will be promoted, and gain attention rather than lesser work that is overpaid.

As far as delegating the majority of the available HP here to a few accounts, I had this thought a while ago and I don't know if I'm right or wrong. But, let's say 10 accounts have a lot of HP delegated to them, that could be an issue if we do get some form of 'Mass Adoption' because with a huge amount of creators, the large curator accounts wouldn't physically be able to upvote all of them, so it would actually be better to have the HP distributed among multiple accounts so they actually have the mana to curate more content and keep up with the userbase expansion.

Obviously, I'm nobody and don't have all the answers, but I do have a lot of ideas about Hive in general, and thoughts for ways to potentially help certain problems I have seen.

0.00078083 BEE

I just think that every single app is trying to push their way into an everything app and it really depends on the curators to figure out what they want. I agree that Hive doesn't really have any rules but there are guidelines that most people tend to follow on. I personally don't delegate out my Hive because I want my own vote to have some value. It's a long journey and I am nowhere close to that.

I agree that Hive doesn't really have any rules but there are guidelines that most people tend to follow on.

Following the rules of certain communities is the right way to do it... But, limiting people to be creative and innovative, or discouraging them is wrong... I don't want to see HIVE as a platform where all posts have 1000+ words, 2 images, and a signature... We want diversity, different content, different opinions, freedom of speech... And the easiest way to get there is to be involved individually, as that's the best way to "grow" decentralization...

I personally don't delegate out my Hive because I want my own vote to have some value. It's a long journey and I am nowhere close to that.

If the HIVE price goes up to $1, your upvote will be 3x higher... It is a long journey, but it's worth it... It's great to OWN your account, and to have your upvote to support others!

So far for me who use peakD, ecency, wearealive, and Hive.blog. It's more like blogspot and wordpress rather than others.

@ph1102! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @ cursephantom. (1/20)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want, plus you can win Hive Power (2x 50 HP) and Alive Power (2x 500 AP) delegations (4 weeks), and Ecency Points (4x 50 EP), in our chat every day.

It is like you said... But, HIVE isn't just that... It's more than that and that's why we shouldn't "judge" different types of content like some curators are judging... Nobody knows what is the "best way" to "do HIVE"... Maybe we didn't even discover the best usage of this blockchain... Rules kill creativity and innovation... And we don't want to see that happening...

Nice sharing! I also came into Hive from Splinterlands, one day later in fact, because I was wondering how to earn SPT because it was one of the items in the points system to gain more daily SPS airdrop. 2 years on, I think I spend more time on Hive now than playing Splinterlands, haha!

heheheh... Same for me... I'm barely spending any time on Splinterlands as I'm stressing too much while playing... lol... I don't like the system where your win-loss ratio is near 50%... I know that we get more points for wins, but still, nobody likes to lose that many times... šŸ¤£

Hive is more than everything and the major thing I think we need now is popularity. Hive has games, threads, blog and so much more so it is left to us to spice up the platform. That's what we have to do

0.00079887 BEE

We will see what happens when we go out from this dull period...

0E-8 BEE

I moved myself from Facebook to noisecash and from noisecash to readcash and then on hive, i moved from web2 to web3 and i think it's a nice move lol šŸ˜‚

The rules which you talked about are rules of any community of hive but yes you're right it's up to us if we follow the guidelines or rules of those community or not.

I agree with you that there's no rule on hive, but just one rule, that on Facebook , Instagram and Twitter we use copy and paste content but here one thing which i know that we should be original and don't become it a mess like web2.

Now we've three speak and ecency video too just like people use YouTube šŸ™‚

I think Blockchain provide us every thing šŸ¤šŸ’«

0.00077974 BEE

Exactly! As time passes by, more and more people will realize the benefits of Web3 platforms and blockchain tech in general... As centralized authorities continue pressuring people, they will move to Web3... Exactly like you did, or me... šŸ™‚

Have a great weekend!

0E-8 BEE

Yes, with time people will know it's value, but I'm also late in joining web3 because i see people start to use it earlier than me, but it's okay too šŸ™‚

Have a nice weekend you too šŸ’«

I would like to say here that there must be rules on it when someone doesn't follow then he is penalized as we all know and you have made this special post for new users as well. Will send this to all my friends who will start working on it now.

0.00071453 BEE

I would like to say here that there must be rules on it when someone doesn't follow then he is penalized

That's the way you were raised and how TV, and radio, "educated" you to THINK... Every adult person should have the right to think for themselves and we don't need rules... That way of thinking is limiting your growth and your possibility to be free...

0E-8 BEE

Yeah you are right.

0E-8 BEE

Nowadays I hardly spent my time on other social media apart from hive

0.00054680 BEE

It's just a waste of time to spend it on Web2 social media... They are almost equal to other mainstream media that are mainly spreading lies and promoting their agenda...
