AI vs Humans: Who Truly Holds the Power?

Honestly, this question is a little bit complicated for me to answer because we are talking about whether AI is smarter than humans. This is a question people keep asking—whether AI is smarter than humans or humans are smarter than AI. So I would love to share my own view concerning this topic.

One thing we should know about AI (Artificial Intelligence) is that it is very fast and delivers answers immediately. AI can process information in seconds and give you answers almost instantly. But if a human were to do the same thing, it would take much longer time, or even days. And because of this, that’s why some people think AI is smarter than humans. But let’s leave how “smart” AI is, because what people are really seeing is its speed and efficiency.

Now let’s talk about humans. Humans don’t just deal with information, we actually understand it. If I’m being sincere about we humans, we question things and sometimes doubt them. As humans, we can look at a situation and bring out our emotions, experiences, and personal views when thinking about something, which AI can't do so. AI works based on data and how it has been programmed. That’s why we are always surprised when we ask AI a question and it immediately gives us answers. It’s because it has been programmed for such situations.

Let’s use calculations for example. If we ask AI to solve a calculation for us, it will deliver the answer instantly and fast. But that doesn’t mean AI understands the calculation. If the same calculation is given to a human, we know how to solve it and explain how we get the answer correctly. We can even come up with new ways to solve it in another way.

Another thing is that people often argue that AI is creative because it can write stories, help generate ideas, or even create designs, which I strongly agree with. For example, if we ask AI to generate a dog and a house image and make it look real, it will. But Humans create from their own experiences.

Another important thing we must not forget is decision-making. Humans can decide what is good or bad for them, but AI can’t. As humans, we have values and emotions that guide our choices, but AI lacks all these.

But let’s not forget how powerful AI is. Ever since AI came into existence, it has made a lot of things easier. Despite the fact that AI has advantages, it also has disadvantages. In the sense that because of AI, some people now prefer to use it instead of giving work to designers, video editors, and movie producers, because they feel AI can do it without spending money. But if we still look at it in a good way, AI has made a lot of things easier. Students now use it for school assignments, group assessments, project work, and so on and because of AI students don't have the need to go to library for information.

So, if I am asked whether AI is smarter than humans, my answer will be: not really. The reason is that AI is faster and more efficient at certain tasks, especially when it comes to processing information. But human intelligence is still deeper in many ways.

Let me ask this question:

Why will AI be smarter than humans?

AI can never be smarter or more intelligent than humans because it is humans that created AI in the first place. Just like a Yoruba adage, which I will say in English for everyone’s sake: the one who creates something is the same one who knows how to destroy it.

In conclusion, AI is a tool created by humans to make life easier, not something that can replace human thinking completely. The only solution is balance. AI can handle heavy tasks and make things faster, while humans bring meaning, direction, and understanding.
