Power is something nice only when it is used appropriately, but the common problem with power is the abuse of it.
Abuse of power is not only seen in our government; you don't need to go far before seeing this abuse plastered all over. In our homes, in the church, in our workplace, in schools, etc. These things happen around us and even among our close friends; people feel they are more important because they acquired little authority over others, but then, it's easy to point fingers at the government but look closely and see how humans abuse others codedly all because of power!

Personally, I feel that having power over others shouldn't give you the right to give people unfair treatment no or abuse of any kind, but then, this thing happens even between parent and children. It's sad to see that some children's feelings and opinions never matter, even though they should be disciplined, but they deserve to be listened to.
We can't just say we are adults and do things overboard. One of the abuses of power I have witnessed in a home was between a madam and her maidservant. However, I am happy to date that I didn't keep silent over such unfair treatment from such an unfair authority but spoke up for the poor maid servant. It is sad to see how some madam treats others badly; perhaps she taught another person's daughter was picked from a gutter instead of being born normally, just like her own kids.
I couldn't watch this woman treat the poor maid like a rag. Is it the hectic job she gives this little maid? or the beating with a belt and injury with a hot knife? Or is it the fact that the poor maid starves and picks leftovers to survive? Thus, it is pure abuse simply because she has the authority over her, but the nonsense was put on a stop when I angrily intervened!
So, how can we hold these kinds of people accountable? It's simple: just speak up when you see something, like I did for this innocent poor maid many years back in the city of Enugu. No need to keep quite because you feel the person involved has power more than you. There is always a higher power to treat their nonsense. Keeping quiet could only escalate things, and that's not right.
Again, no wrongdoing of such should go unpunished regardless of the abuser's status. No need to romance bad behavior; even if the person is my relative, people should simply be guided and have empathy.
Overall, I believe that true leadership is about how people around us can feel safe, respected, and valued. Even when we don't have the power to change many things in our world today, we can start by making good use of that little power in our hands over others; it's a great way to start, and everyone will feel alright.
