Behaviours and Other Traits Could Be Learned

It's another beautiful day for us and a blissful weekend I suppose.
Our discussion today is a serious one and we should be objective as much as possible. Trait pattern is a serious deal when it comes to parenting.

What Is Trait Pattern ?

This refers to the recurring characteristics or qualities that are commonly found in individuals within a particular group or category. This group could be family, business associate or even school.of thought.

Traits can be physical, psychological or behavioural in nature. For emphasis, I would bother on the behavioural traits of individuals.

Have you ever wondered why some children behave in a particular way? It is usually because they inherited such traits from their parents. To buttress this point further, let's look at the processes through which individuals form traits that are exhibited and displayed.

Genetics

Everybody has a blood resemblance of their parents in one way or the other. Genes are transferred during conception and the child grows within the environment of the womb with these genes from both parents.

A gene is a sequence of DNA that contains the instructions for making a particular protein or molecule. Genes are the basic units of heredity and are passed down from parents to offspring. They determine various traits and characteristics of an organism, such as eye color, height, and susceptibility to certain diseases. Each organism has a unique set of genes that determine its genetic makeup.

Hence, when I behave in a particular way, it could be that I picked the behaviour from either my father or mother.

A child that steals can easily be linked to either parents and to his or her third to fourth generation.

You will also agree with me that for intelligence, the genes in parents are transferred from parents and it forms the basis for which a child could be intelligent or otherwise.

On the other hand, parents can physically change their pattern of behaviour and become examples for their children to copy from. That's what we call leadership or parenting by example.

Environmental Factors.

Here, we shall take a look at some environmental factors that cause an individual to behave in some particular ways.

• Upbringing:
Many parents do not want their children to go through what they went through growing up, they pamper them and give them access to a lot of opportunities. You may see children who are brought up by the same parent exhibit the same kind of behaviour.

• Culture:
Children who are from similar cultural backgrounds may behave in the same manner in certain aspects of life. This is why culture, which is the total way of life of a people, is a great determinant of behaviour of the people through their belief and traditions.

• Experience:
One important factor that makes people behave in a certain way is experience. A child may never be able to recover from fear, stealing, bullying and whatnot because of the experience they have elsewhere.

• Peer, Friends and Relationship:

Show me your friend, I will tell you who you are.

People behave like their friends. So, when you keep friendships with people, you tend to learn how they behave.
