Of course, lately here in Brazil, it feels like no one talks about anything other than the election. We had the presidential election last Sunday, and since then, it seems like every conversation somehow ends up turning to politics. All you have to do is open social media, talk to someone, or even go outside to realize that there is some kind of war going on between the right and the left. Each side defending its ideas, trying to prove that it is right, and often treating anyone who thinks differently like an enemy. And honestly, I can't stand hearing about politics anymore. I don't like politics, I don't have a defined side, and if I had to place my way of thinking somewhere, it would probably be closer to something anarchist or libertarian. But even saying that seems to be enough for someone to try to put a label on you.
The most interesting part is that I find myself right in the middle of this crossfire practically every day. I have friends who support completely different positions, just like people in my own family. I see arguments happening, people sharing news, memes, videos, and opinions, often without even trying to understand what the other side is saying. And maybe that's exactly what bothers me the most. It's not just politics itself, but the way it has managed to take up so much space in people's lives. Sometimes I feel like we can no longer simply talk about football, work, music, or anything else without someone finding a way to turn it into a political discussion, well, at least while election season is in full swing...
I know politics is important. Decisions made by governments affect our lives, our money, our jobs, and even the future we will leave for our children. I don't think it's possible to simply ignore all of that. But there is a huge difference between being interested in politics and allowing politics to control practically every aspect of your life. Maybe that's the biggest thing this trend has taught me so far. I've learned that I don't have to choose a side just because everyone else seems to be choosing one. I also don't need to turn every conversation into a battle to defend what I believe. I can simply say that I disagree, listen to the other person, and move on with my life.
Maybe I'm getting too old for this kind of war, or maybe I simply never liked it in the first place. I'd much rather talk to someone about their experiences, their dreams, their problems, or even something completely useless than spend hours trying to figure out which side is right. At the end of the day, we are still people, regardless of the candidate we chose or the ideology we follow. We can have completely different opinions and still sit at the same table, have a beer, and talk about other things. I wish that were more common. Because honestly, if there is any trend that really interests me right now, maybe it's simply the desire to find a little peace in the middle of so much arguing. I hate politics.

I stay away from politics and as my grandfather told me: in life don't steal, don't lie and don't be a politician as they do both of them. 😊
What a wonderful phrase. I'm definitely going to use it a few times from now on!
