To some extent, I can understand the existence of this kind of power. Maybe in some situations it really is necessary for someone to have the ability to block a decision that could have very bad consequences. The problem begins when this power is concentrated in a single person and, even worse, when there is practically no way for other people or institutions to interfere with that decision. Because, at the end of the day, we are talking about one person. They can be right, they can be wrong, they can interpret a situation completely differently from everyone else, and they can even make a decision that seems correct to them at that moment but later turns out to be a huge mistake, or they could even be corrupt.
And that is exactly what makes me wonder whether this kind of power should really exist in this way. I don't think it is simply a matter of saying that someone cannot have authority. Of course, whoever holds certain positions needs to have the authority to make decisions. What bothers me is when that authority reaches a point where nobody else can do anything. If one person can overturn a decision regardless of what everyone else thinks, then what is the point of everything else? To me, there is a very big difference between having the final say in certain situations and having the power to simply prevent anything from happening. The first can be necessary, while the second can end up creating a very dangerous situation.
I also think it is complicated when this power is created in such a way that other institutions cannot interfere. Because as long as there is some kind of limit, there is still a possibility of balance. But when someone knows that their decision cannot be challenged, it becomes very easy to start crossing certain boundaries. Maybe it doesn't happen immediately, maybe that person really has good intentions, but too much power in the hands of any human being is something that should concern us. I think this way because I don't believe there is anyone who is completely free from mistakes. Even a very intelligent and experienced person can make a bad decision. And if that decision can be overturned later, that's fine, it happens. The problem is when it simply cannot be questioned.
In the end, I think veto power can have an important purpose, but I'm not sure it should exist in such an absolute way. Maybe the right thing would be to have some kind of balance, where a person could block a decision but would not have the ability to prevent any change forever. Because when someone is given a power that others cannot limit, we end up trusting too much in a single person. And personally, I don't really like that idea. Not because I believe that everyone who has this power will necessarily do something wrong, but because I don't think a system should depend on the kindness or competence of one single person. People change, circumstances change, and decisions can change too. Having power is one thing, not being able to be questioned is something completely different. And maybe that is precisely where the real problem with veto power lies.

É claro que quem ocupa determinadas posições precisa ter autoridade para tomar decisões. O que me incomoda é quando essa autoridade chega a um ponto em que ninguém mais consegue fazer nada. Se uma pessoa pode anular uma decisão, independente do que os outros pensem, então qual é o sentido de todo o restante? Para mim, existe uma diferença muito grande entre ter a palavra final em algumas situações e ter o poder de simplesmente impedir qualquer coisa. A primeira pode ser necessária, a segunda pode acabar criando uma situação bastante perigosa.
Também acho complicado quando esse poder é criado justamente de uma maneira que outros órgãos não conseguem interferir. Porque enquanto existe algum tipo de limite, ainda existe uma possibilidade de equilÃbrio. Mas quando alguém sabe que sua decisão não poderá ser contestada, fica muito fácil começar a ultrapassar alguns limites. Talvez não aconteça imediatamente, talvez a pessoa realmente tenha boas intenções, mas poder demais nas mãos de qualquer ser humano é algo que deveria preocupar. Eu penso assim porque não acredito que exista alguém completamente livre de erros. Mesmo uma pessoa muito inteligente e experiente pode tomar uma decisão ruim. E se essa decisão puder ser anulada depois, tudo bem, faz parte. O problema é quando ela simplesmente não pode ser questionada.
No fim, acho que o poder de veto pode ter uma função importante, mas não sei se deveria existir de uma maneira tão absoluta. Talvez o mais correto fosse existir algum tipo de equilÃbrio, onde uma pessoa pudesse impedir uma decisão, mas não tivesse a capacidade de impedir qualquer mudança para sempre. Porque quando alguém recebe um poder que os outros não conseguem limitar, a gente acaba confiando demais em uma única pessoa. E eu particularmente não gosto muito dessa ideia. Não porque acredito que toda pessoa que tenha esse poder necessariamente vá fazer algo errado, mas porque acho que um sistema não deveria depender da bondade ou da competência de uma única pessoa. Pessoas mudam, circunstâncias mudam e decisões também podem mudar. Ter poder é uma coisa, não poder ser questionado é outra completamente diferente. E talvez seja justamente aà que esteja o verdadeiro problema do poder de veto.
