The Emotional Impact Of Caring For Aging Parents

Should an elderly stay in a retirement home?? Well, This is not even a topic that can discussed in a Nigerian home because most elderly people tend to stay alone as soon as their kids grow up. I haven't seen any retirement homes here in my country lol.

From a personal perspective, I strongly believe that the best option as to whether the elderly should stay in a retirement home or not solely depends on the special needs of the elderly or the financial circumstances of the family. Both of these options offer great advantages and disadvantages, but at the end of the day, the decision should always prioritize their well-being and dignity. They should never be forced to go.

Believe me when I say there's this comfort and familiarity that comes with staying at home with your loved ones. I believe that the elderly feel more secure and emotionally stable when they're surrounded by the people they love and the environment they're familiar with.
Elderly people are like children( they feel safer when they're around their family and their loved ones.).
Honestly, it's a thing of joy to be able to care for your elderly relatives, especially when you think about the sacrifices they've made for you. On the other hand, retirement homes offer professional care that the family might not be able to give, especially when the elderly have a special need or when they have an underlying health issue.

As we age, our physical and mental health may deteriorate, requiring medical attention almost every minute, or sometimes they might also need assistance with their daily activities like going to the bathroom, eating, or even lying on the bed. In cases like these, professional care is best for the job to handle their everyday needs.
Some elderly might prefer to stay home because of the emotional attachment and intimacy of a loved one's care. While some might prefer to go to a retirement home where they can meet with other elders and socialize, have fun activities and at the same time get professional care and attention. Visiting regularly is also a great way to support them because seeing you alone creates a strong connection, and it reassures them that they're not alone
.

Taking care of the elderly at home can bring families closer, but at the same time, it can also create stress. It's not easy caring for a loved one; it requires a lot of time, emotional energy, and financial and physical effort, which is not easy at all. This might cause one to burn out.
It's emotionally challenging to place a loved one in a retirement home, but sometimes it's what's best.
Let's not forget that professional care is the best and most loving choice when it comes to the elderly because it enhances their life.

With everything being said, the best option for Mr A, isn't always the best option for Mr B, so the first thing to put in mind is what's best for the elderly, then finances.

If finances aren't a problem, I would do what's best depending on the special needs of the elderly. Most times, the elderly can come home and spend quality time with the family because, at the end of the day, what matters the most is that the elderly individual feels loved, respected, and well cared for even tho they're far away, the family relationship remains strong despite the challenges.

Love and care is all that they need, even with special needs or not. Some family out their aged ones in good nursing homes and forget them their.

We barely have nursing homes in this sort of the world, I hate to see old people stressing themselves out because they have no one to help.

Taking care of the elderly at home can bring families closer, but at the same time, it can also create stress.

Make a lot of sense, being with the family can bring them special form if bond and happiness but it can also be very stressful and exhausting to cater for all their wellbeing
